San Flaviano, The Land of Light where the Doves Meet is one of Italy's oldest buildings. It is estimated that the original Etruscan Temple on this site was built around 750 BC. The present church was built from the ruins in the 8th century and grew with the community until the 15th century. The church is dedicated to the 4th century Archbishop of Constantinople San Flaviano and was used as a resting place for pilgrims on the route to Assisi. The frescoes over and around the altar area are from the 14th century and have been restored where possible. There are beautiful watercolors of San Flaviano, St. Thomas, and St. Anthony along with cherubs and angels playing music and singing.

San Flaviano serviced the community until closing in 1972 when it was deconsecrated. It has reopened its doors in 2014 as a non-denominational spiritual center, taking care of those who also want to take the pilgrimage to their essential selves through a physical, emotional and spiritual pilgrimage. The rest of the beautiful white stone building was most certainly a monastery and has been newly renovated. It includes a living room / dining room with fireplace, a professional chef's kitchen, and four double bedrooms, each with their own en suite private bathroom. Another interesting element is that the four bedrooms are each off the stone portico.

The portico in front of the bedrooms looks out onto the lush green hills. The church has an oak beamed open plan living mezzanine sleeping area with a bathroom. The oldest section of the church, dating back to 10th century, is a small stone building. It later became used as the sacristy and is now a comfortable living room. The surrounding plot on a hilltop is approximately a hectare from which one enjoys peaceful views of the countryside. The property is located on a wonderfully panoramic highland with great views and a lovely wooden surround, the woods are primarily precious oak wood.

Since 750BC this site has been used as a sacred community place of worship and the grounds are protected and monastery are Grade 1 listed therefore we can only offer an above ground fresh water 32ft swimming pool.


Yoga program

Hatha, Vinyasa, Restorative, Yin, Pranayama, Vipassana meditation, and partner yoga. Our classes are designed for participants who are beginner to intermediate and alternative poses are taught so all abilities can be in flow. Our teachers will be creating classes daily to fit the needs of each group and individuals. There will be a maximum of 8 guests ensuring you get lots of personal attention. We teach all classes in English.

Daily schedule

  • 07:30 Freshly prepared smoothie, juices or ginger, turmeric & lemon tea
  • 08:00 Morning yoga: Wake up your senses - physical exercise to start the day full of energy
  • 09:30 Meditation
  • 10.00 Delicious breakfast of fruits, all homemade yogurts, fresh breads, preserves, honey, nuts and seeds, farm eggs, teas and great Italian coffee
  • 10:30 Excursion, workshop or relax
  • Cooking Class
  • 14:00 Lunch served outside on the portico, local award-winning cheeses, salads, homemade soups and deliciously healthy desserts
  • 15:00 Free time to siesta, swim in the pool, take the dogs out for a walk on one of the trails, meditate, paint
  • 18:00 Evening yoga (Restorative / Yin): Relax the body and mind - improve flexibility and keep the body warm
  • 19:30 Pranayama (breathing techniques) and guided meditation (optional)
  • 20:00 Three-course dinner served with Prosecco and wines at the big table under the stars or inside the church
  • 21:00 Free time to relax or socialize

Please note that all the classes and workshops are optional during your yoga retreat. Abundance Yoga Retreat - Italy wants you to develop at your own pace and to enjoy your stay. They aim to let you relish your yoga retreats as much as possible, to become healthy in mind and body, to learn how to relax and deal with stress, and to learn how to feel at one with yourself. Included excursions

During this retreat, there will be a trip to UNESCO World Heritage-listed town of Assisi Famed as the birthplace of Italy’s Catholic patron saint, St Francis, the sleepy little town documents all the highs and lows of his life. On a walking tour includes The Basilica di San Francesco, Piazza del Comune, with its turreted ‘palace’ Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo and admire the Roman Temple of Minerva, and then return to San Flaviano for dinner on the terrace. Day yoga and hiking trip into the Sibillini National Park - voted one of the worlds top 10 most beautiful parks by National Geographic.

500-hour certification the Pranakriya School of Yoga Healing Arts in Atlanta under the instruction of William Hufschmidt and Vladimir Tchakarov. Pranakriya Yoga is based on the Hatha Yoga teachings of Swami Kripalu. Her yoga classes include gentle, meditative, restorative, and workout flow. She firmly believes that yoga is the change maker the world needs now. Yoga allows space for everyone to connect intimately with breath, mind, and body without judgment. Bronwen is a 500 E-RYT yoga teacher, dance artist, and choreographer from the Okanagan region of British Columbia, Canada. She has amassed thousands of hours of yoga teaching experience, working with a variety of populations over the past 10 years spent on three continents. The most formative study in yoga was done while living in Buenos Aires and Oslo, Norway. She primary views postural yoga as an art form with a variety of stylistic interpretations, therapeutic benefits, inspirational, as well as spiritual possibilities that are scientific, artistic, and mystical in nature.

After so many request we have decided to add in an Italian cooking class plus an open invite to join the chef in the kitchen to learn how to prepare our famous Abundance Food.

The traditional vegetarian Umbrian cuisine is about good flavor, freshness, and simplicity. Umbria's rich local soil provides its residents an unlimited number of amazing seasonal ingredients which are simply prepared to highlight the true flavor of each dish. The traditional methods still used in the production of such typical ingredients as Norcias regional artisan cheeses, regional wines, and the famous treasured black truffle that grows on the grounds at San Flaviano Retreat.

The cuisine is unique to the region and authentic to its origins. The cuisine of Umbria is healthy, hearty, and born from cucina povera. Umbrians have always relied on the natural resources harvested from their fields and forests. It is honest, Italian home cooking at its very finest.
