"Knowledgeable and beautiful experience overall. The teachers know a lot and are professional and try to share as much as they know and the more we know even more we feel we want and need to learn more. I like the modern safety approach to the asanas, which consider the necessities of very body and how not to injure. I also enjoyed the stretchiness and intensively, so I feel a lot of progress and didn’t give myself never opportunity find excuses. I definitely would recommend it to other people who want physically challenging training."

"My advice is, try your best not to lose it. Keep this attitude of treating every new group as a new adventure and a chance for you to grow and develop. Treat them individually and keep caring about them. Don’t turn into a factory producing teachers in batches of 25 or 30 people. I do hope people who come here in a year or two will experience same hospitality and care as I did. Thank you, Ajarya Team!"

  • Review by Ian from United Kingdom

"There are many schools of yoga, in many countries, especially in the UK where I live. If you want a real Indian perspective of yoga, modern, and ancient, then it would be hard to beat Ajarya. Equal weight is given to every aspect of the 8 limbs (of Patanjali), so by the time the course ends, you will know about yoga and not just about asana with a bit of pranayama as do many yoga students and practitioners in the west, me included before the course. Modern Ashtanga Vinyasa practice of asana is at the core of the teaching, though not exclusively, so it will support you if you have a knowledge and practice in the Ashtanga primary series. In addition, the single room accommodation is good, and there are two practice rooms, one on the roof with beautiful views of the Himalayan foothills. There is an Ayurveda spa in the hotel, with good quality (and fair priced) Panchakarma massage and treatments available to smooth away excess aches."

  • Review by Hanna from Vasteras, Sweden

"I think there should be more time for self-study in the beginning. It would be good to have some time to read in. I miss having a female teacher I think it could be good with a gender balance. I think yoga teachers are doing a great job, spreading energy or an eagerness to learn more. The book (the one you made) should correspond more to the lectures. I think the opening ceremony should be better planned, with more explanation and may be by the Ganges. The program at Ajarya is intense, well planned, and with very competent teachers. It is a personal and familiar atmosphere. Accommodation are good and excellent. I feel well prepared to start teaching after termination."

  • Review by Sally Crane from United Kingdom

"The month I spent with Ajarya Yoga Academy was the most incredible month of my life. It was so intense and exhausting, but really inspirational. We had 5.30 a.m. starts, six days a week. We had a two hour yoga class and an hour of Pranayama before breakfast, then classes on Indian philosophy, Sanskrit, the schools of yoga and the Hindu scriptures, before breaking for lunch. We would spend the afternoon learning about anatomy, physiology, meditation, prayers, and teaching methodology, then lead classes ourselves before dinner. After dinner, we'd have assignments, research projects, essays, revision for tests, etc, so we'd only manage about five hours sleep a night. "

"Then on our day off, we'd be in reception for 7 a.m. for various excursions, like trekking, visiting temples for Arti ceremonies, and white water rafting down the Ganges. It was literally non-stop! The food was delicious. We were fed vast amounts of the freshest, healthiest Indian food three times a day. The Academy is in the foothills of the Himalayas and the whole town felt like a very spiritual place. We had daily teachings from a Swami who guided us with meditation, the Bhagavadgita and other scriptures, and the spiritual principles of yoga. I would say I learned a lot more about the spiritual side of yoga by doing the course in the foothills of the Hilmalayas than I would have done doing the course elsewhere."

"All instructors were very knowledgeable, caring, and generous. They were light hearted with a gentle sense of humor to make each lesson informative yet fun. The material was presented in a very planned and ordered manner, which enhanced the learning process. Personally, I would have liked more time to practice adjustments on each and every primary series asana, however I understand that it is a lot of material to fit into a one-month curriculum. Overall, it was an amazing experience. I give many thanks to all who organized and made the program possible."

"Ajarya was everything that I wanted from a Yoga Teacher Training Program. The program approaches yoga as a true philosophy and way of life - not just as a fitness program, like many other schools do. Studying at Ajarya is one of the happiest memories of my life, and it has equipped me with the skills to be a thorough, knowledgeable yoga practitioner and teacher. I would recommend Ajarya to anyone looking for a deeper yoga enrichment."

  • Review by Om Dev from India

"I have had the grace of God in my life, that took me around the world, teaching yoga in many countries including USA, UK, China, etc. I would have assumed easily that I had learned quite a bit. Having graduated from the only Yoga University in India at that time, S-VYASA, gave me an opportunity to learn a little more than many of my colleagues and classmates. Life brought me full circle, back to Rishikesh, as another opportunity beckoned me to further my sadhana, my practice."

"Here, I was guided to Ajarya. This has been another life-changing opportunity for me. The teachers at Ajarya are loving and caring, knowledgeable and devoted to their teaching. The location of Ajarya cannot be better that what it is. The food, the hygiene, the warmth of the staff - all in all, a most fulfilling experience. The content of the yoga program was enriching and deeply satisfying."

"Here I found highly qualified teachers in every yoga field. Each subject has been clearly explained and the whole program was well distributed along the 200-hour TTC. The focus was in both the practical and theoretical aspects of yoga, and thank to some trips which has been organised in Agra and Rishikesh, we have been able to experience several aspects of the Indian culture. The Ajarya team is composed by people who really love yoga and who made of it a lifestyle."

"Each of us has been strongly supported in his own progress and the small size of the class made possible to build up a familiar and confidential atmosphere, without losing the professional relationship between students and teachers. The food we had was simple and delicious, kindly in line with the Yogic lifestyle. In a couple of occasions, we have been pleased with sweet surprises, like ice cream and chocolate by our teachers."

"In Ajarya, we have also had the opportunity of celebrating the birthday of one of us. This just contributed to increase the friendship with the teachers. Kindness, preparation, patience and open mindedness are just example of what I found in each member of the Ajarya team. Now that I've just come back home I already miss all of them, but I am sure we will keep in touch, anyway. After this experience, I feel more focused, more relaxed and definitely ready to pass to my future students all that I learnt in Ajarya. What I feel to say now is, thank you Ajarya team for having contributed in such a great way to my personal growth. I really hope to see all of you again, somewhere, one day."

"The team at Ajarya are highly skilled in the field of yoga. Everyone was so open and friendly in sharing their knowledge and all the training has really deepened my yoga practice and prepared me to share these teachings with future students. The program exceeded my expectations and it was truly a life changing experience. I thought the staff was excellent. Everyone was highly qualified in their area and I got a lot of take a ways from the training. I think I am somewhat ready to teach because I still need to do some more practicing, but the team definitely gave me all the knowledge to get there."

"As far as the manual goes, I think what might be helpful would be to include a written explanation of all the adjustments and also sample class plans that may vary from the primary series. Also, the accommodations were adequate, but it might be helpful to mention to students regarding bringing any ice packs or hot packs for sore muscles because it is not something you can get here. Also, the food started becoming a bit monotonous after a while, but it was always made well."

I wish Swami Ji had taught a lot more. He is truly a gift with whom our entire class felt so connected. I am so happy I chose this program. The equal emphasis given to the philosophical, spiritual, anatomical, historical, and pragmatic application of yoga were in perfect balance. I am grateful to have such good guidance for all my future yoga classes and to have had such caring, kind, and dedicated instructors here. I feel I have come so far in my asana practice in the past month and also really understand the yoga habits and I am confident going forward that I will be able to incorporate them into my life. I am also grateful that coming from a westernized yoga background, I was able to learn from very traditionally-based teachers and understand the benefits of carrying those traditions down through the ages. "I came to India to learn the traditional roots of yoga and that was exactly what I received. The yoga teacher taught with a genuine desire to pass on the knowledge so that the benefits of yoga could then be shared within our own community. Through contemplations of the philosophic basis of yoga, the practice, I personally felt an inner shift within myself and the group. We all experienced improved wellness, in only one month and witnessed this growth. I can now acknowledge the power of yoga. Thank you so much. I hope I can touch others in my life and help people increase wellness the way I have experienced. Thank you. Namaste!"

"The main teacher Nagesh was extremely open to our suggestions and took them into consideration whenever possible. In one occasion, I suggested that it would be good to study the Bhavgabad Gita, and within 24 hours, he organized a fabulous teacher to come in and talk to us about it. This class was hugely inspirational for me and I would always be grateful to him for that. I have also learnt a lot from his humble approach and respect and love for yoga. The pranayama and meditation teacher was very inspirational for me also."

"I have learnt not only simple techniques of pranayama and meditation, appropriate to my level of experience, but more importantly I have learnt how important it is as a practice and it will now form part of my daily yoga practice alongside asanas. The visiting teacher we had for the Gita was incredible, a gem really. It would be amazing if he can be employed, alongside Nagesh, to cover some of the areas of the course relevant to yoga philosophy. The setting of the course was excellent. The staff at the hotel is really nice, food is okay, and the yoga shala is good also. It has been a great experience for me as a whole to stay in Rishikesh for 4 weeks, and I am hoping to get the chance to come back in the future. Thank you."

Ajarya has inspired me to try to embody yoga and its philosophy in all that I do. I feel lucky to have been a part of Ajarya."
