Silent Meditation Retreat Austria

This listing has the most popular offer available in Austria

Vipassana is often translated as insight. The Vipassana meditation technique in the courses is passed on in the same way as it is traditionally practised in the temples in Northern Thailand under the guidance of the venerable Ajahn Tong. It is an intensive form of the Mahasi Sayadaw tradition with walking and sitting meditations. So come enjoy this retreat and find yourself leaving relaxed and reinvigorated!

Alpen Retreat Austria Meditation Retreat Program

You have no one else to look after, you do not have to think about or plan anything while you are on this retreat. Take this opportunity to be away from the demands of your busy and complicated lifestyle. Delve deeper into your meditation practice and leave feeling not only totally rested and peaceful but also inspired to make meditation a part of your daily life.

Part of the retreat is a daily reporting time that the teacher holds with each student individually to help them in the process. A confessional binding to Buddhism is neither presumed nor expected.

During the course participants are asked to adhere to the eight Buddhists precepts:

  • To abstain from killing any living creature.
  • To abstain from taking what has not been given.
  • To abstain from any sexual activity.
  • To abstain from bad speech such as telling lies, gossiping, or bad language.
  • To abstain from taking intoxicants (drugs or alcohol).
  • To abstain from eating solid foods after 12 midday.
  • To abstain from sensual entertainment (dancing, singing, listening to music, entertainments, using perfumes, jewellery, etc).
  • To abstain from sleeping in high and luxurious beds.

The courses are conducted in noble silence.

Instructors

Martin Pack
Martin has been meditating for more than 30 years. 14 years ago, he came across this particular form of Vipassana meditation and it was a life-changing experience. He subsequently spent years practicing in Northern Thailand often going straight from one retreat into another. Soon, he was asked to assist in leading retreats by revered teacher Thanat in Chom Thong in Thailand and Phra Ofer in Israel under the authority of the venerable Ajarn Tong Sirimangalo coming from the Mahasi lineage.

Location

Located on the Fernpass, a main pass through the Alps, the Alpen Retreat is situated on the Via Claudia Augusta, a historic Roman road utilized by countless travelers including Napoleon during his march into Italy. At 1200 meters in altitude, this 500 year old former manor house blends seamlessly into a mountain panorama of pine forests, jagged peaks, and crystal clear Alpine lakes.

Alpine Retreat on the Tirolean Fernpass is a 45-minute drive from the German border, 1 hour and 30 minutes from Italy, and 1 hour from Switzerland. It is also an hour's drive from Memmingen and Innsbruck Airports and 2 hours from Munich Airport. Bus connections from the surrounding cities lead directly to their doorstep. There are five train stations within a 30-minute drive, which are Garmisch Patenkirchen, Fuessen and Imst or Pitztal, Lermoos, and Ehrwald.
