Papageno Resort's unique and spacious Fijian style bures blend island charm and modern comfort, all just steps from the beach. The resort offers an array of amenities to make your stay as carefree as possible. All rooms have full and queen sized beds and are elegantly furnished. Each bure (Fijian for bungalow) and room has its own shower with hotwater 24/7, toilet and sink. They keep the power on 24 hours for your convenience. All the rooms have ceiling fans.

Kadavu is a place left back in time to a peaceful people, whose kind hearts share the paradise of their Island. Their heartfelt hospitality emanates from the traditional dance, rituals and ceremonies which they perform for and sometimes include the island visitors. Wake up to the sound of birds and the smell of fresh ocean air.

Chakras are the subtle power stations running through our bodies, they enhance the flow of energy through our pranic channels or meridians (non-physical level) they also correspond with the endocrine glands and organs. Each chakra awakens dormant areas of the brain and enhance the function of all bodily systems.

Natalie Almond is well known for her transformative retreats through the chakra system. You will be guaranteed a great change from within, a chance to change old habits and your life! Natalie has the ability to channel her students energy enabling her to adapt to each persons needs. She has a talent to weave energy creating a tight community web for the students and a feeling of closeness and safety. Natalie retreats are serious, informative, caring and fun!

We will work our way up through the 7 main chakras along the spine using one chakra per day, giving it full focus and the chance to transform, rejuvenate and re-energize. Practicing silence in the early morning with a meditation session followed by a yoga class relating to the chakra. The yoga room is situated on the beach. Throughout the day we will have time for, more yoga classes, partner stretch, massage, theory session, activities relating to the chakra and more meditation. Mornings are intended for silence.

Enjoy waterfalls hiking, remote surrounding islands, kayaking, boat trip and picnic, snorkeling, diving, kava feast, lovo party, gospel singing, basket weaving and more.

Bird watching

Each morning, the trees of Papageno erupt with birdcalls from some of the 68 species identified on the island. Small wonder that Papagenos 350 acres of jungle is a tantalizing destination for bird watchers. King among this early morning chorus is the Masked Shining Parrot, shown above, one of four endemic species found nowhere else in the world. The other three endemics are the Whistling Dove, the Kadavu Fantail, and the Kadavu Honeyeater.


Papageno Resort is situated in a calm bay protected by fringe reefs making the area ideal for exploring the nooks and crannies of the coast. They offer sea kayaks for this activity and they can be found under a small thatched roof at the shore. Next to it is a small store room where you will find the paddles and the life jackets. As the hull of your kayak slices through emerald water, the Pacific around you erupts with hundreds of flying fish; in a mangrove, you explore up the serpentine canals to find birds, crabs, and fish nurseries; and as night falls, you watch the spectacle of the ocean extinguishing the sun; or you pack a picnic lunch and paddle away to your own deserted island beach. Kayaking is an amazing way to experience Kadavus natural wonders. The kayaks are free to use and are available as solo or tandem boats. No prior experience is required: just add water and go.

Waterfall hike

Directly south from Papageno Resort, about 3.5 kilometers nestled in the mountain jungle, there is a tiny waterfall that is popular with visitors. It runs on the bottom of a small picturesque, forested gorge and has a square-shaped natural pool underneath, good for a cool bath after your hot trip up to the waterfall. As you ascend the volcanic backbone of the island, you will have a great view of Daku Bay, the deep and beautiful bay east of Papageno. The trail runs mostly through virgin tropical dry forest on the property, which provides a perfect vantage point to see many of the forest birds of Kadavu. The trip is usually self-guided, but you can also take along one of our knowledgeable guides for a small fee.

    Natalie Almond is the founder of Anahata Yoga Space and co-founder of The Living Room Coogee. Teaching Alchemic yoga and Hatha yoga with 27 years experience in yoga and its science, you will definitely be in for a transformative experience. You will understand the works of yoga and utilize it to re-empower, create change, and heal through the therapeutic benefits of yoga. Natalie's classes are gentle yet strong, working with fluidity, core muscles, asana, pranayama, bandhas, meditation, and visualization, incorporating internal alchemy, traditional Hatha style, and chi kung movements.

Kadavu, Fiji is not only known for its awesome scuba diving experiences but for the rainforest of Kadavu Island. The rainforest is of particular interest due to the magnificent flora and fauna that abounds and the beautiful birds that call Kadavu Island home. One such bird that is now considered an endangered species is one that you will have to catch on film is the Kadavu Musk Parrot.

The rainforest of Kadavu Island excites visitors with such beauty that is almost hard to explain in words with mountainous treks and waterfalls throughout the entire rainforest. Not only will bird lovers bask in the wonder of the species found on Kadavu but also all nature lovers will enjoy the spectacular beauty of the rugged mountains, white sandy beaches, and the awesome coral reefs.

Papageno Resort works to maintain the cultural solidarity of Kadavu by preserving local traditions, land and fishing environment. They cater with vegetables grown by themselves and the pork and poultry is also bred at Papageno's.

Arrival by airplane

Pacific Sun has daily flights from Nadi and Nausori Airport just out of Suva. The road system in Kadavu is very limited, with most transport by boat. For those who want to experience inter island travel as the locals do, there is a ferry that departs from Walu Bay, Suva, on Tuesday evenings which travels to Vunisea, Kavala Bay then back to Suva around 2:00 p.m. the following day.

It takes two flights to arrive to the Island so plan for overnight stay in Nandi. Flights may require an overnight stay in Nadi.

Most of you will arrive with Air New Zealand or Fiji Airways in Nadi Fiji. Once you arrive in Fiji, you will need to get a seat on a commuter plane flying to the remote island of Kadavu. There is only one airport and it is in Vunisea Kadavu.

Papageno Resort's staff will be waiting for you at Kadavu's airport and will help carry your luggage to the beach. A powerboat will then take you on an exhilarating 30-minute ride beside a shore where green jungle rises to rolling mountains. Your journey ends when you glide to a halt in the shallows of Malawai Bay, and see your host waiting for you on our white sand beach.

    "I am personally going through a journey, aren't we all? Mine at the present is about healing and finding balance. I began to have an inner urge to get back to Yoga earlier this year, and fittingly Anahata opened up in early May. I went and visited as part of their introductory free thing in the first two weeks and fell in love with the space and of course the yogi Natalie, she is just a lovely light and is truly a healer, a giver, a sharer, clearly she is sharing her space, or what she calls our space. Natalie is just a very love able person, so i dived in to a 6 month membership, totally worth it! Oh and Natalie is a hugger, and they come for free! ;)"
