  • Fireplace
  • Garden
  • Yoga shala

During this retreat, your accommodation options include staying in either a private or shared room in a traditional Asturian cabin; "glamping" in a beautiful meadow, or commuting from a luxurious rural hotel only 7 kilometers away. The beautifully restored traditional mountain cabin is situated above a small mountain meadow and chestnut forests 200 meters away from the shala.

The cabin has great views over El Hibeu, a mountain on the costal side of the Picos de Europa mountains. It has a kitchen, a large bathroom, and a stone built fireplace with supplied firewood. It accommodates up to three people, the cabin is usually offered on a shared basis, although if available, it can also be reserved for private usage.

The economic and nature-lovers "glamping" option is made up of a four-meter bell tent on a spectacular mountain ridge with views of the Picos de Europa and the Gueña valley.

If you are looking after a little luxury style, Asturias Yoga can arrange an accommodation at the Casona de Con, a luxurious rural hotel seven kilometers away from the shala. The main house is self-sufficient with a wood-fired stove, a solar, and water from a nearby stream. There is a vegetable garden, a young orchard, five hives of bees, and four hens.

Program

This course is aimed at Ashtanga practitioners ready to deepen their practice by advancing into the challenging Intermediate series. Ashtanga yoga presents a complete, invigorating, and exciting method for practicing yoga. After learning the primary series, you have probably already begun to feel the many benefits of the practice and are now looking to move even more deeply into the asanas, establishing greater fluidity.

During this course, you will begin with aspects of the primary Ashtanga series which are particularly challenging, specifically, back bending, inversions, and Vinyasa aspects. After a couple of days building these foundations, you will begin to learn the intermediate series. This exciting course requires a high degree of flexibility, a strong spine, and a sound practice of the primary series. It is the natural progression form of this full flow retreat which focuses on the asanas of the primary series.

In this retreat, you will enjoy daily yoga classes and meditation sessions, Ashtanga workshops covering the complete Ashtanga yoga primary series, yoga philosophy and Ayurveda talks, as well as an introduction to the intermediate series postures and guided excursions.

Instructors

Simon
Taatva Rishikesh Yoga Alliance RYT 500 (Ashtanga Yoga)
Born in 1971, Simon’s fascination with yoga began in 2000 upon completing a solo journey on a bicycle from his native Ireland to India. After exploring various styles and traditions, he found Ashtanga to be what he was most inspired to practice and teach, initially due to its obvious benefits for surfing, biking, and rock climbing, and subsequently due to understanding it as a path to meditation. He has published a novel based on yoga philosophy, In Darkness the Seed of Light.
Alysia Simeone
Taatva Yoga Rishikesh Yoga Alliance RYT 500 (Ashtanga Yoga)
Alysia Simeone (1990, Washington) Alysia teaches Ashtanga yoga through the framework of bringing breath and movement into union. Her classes facilitate the somatic experience of grace, a state of harmony within the body-mind complex. Before Ashtanga, Alysia studied extensively classical piano and ballet, performing in both for over a decade. Her first immersion into Indian culture and transition to the physical and cultural practices of Yoga and Ayurveda took place in 2008. Since then, she has devoted all of her continued education (in school settings, ashrams and daily life) to furthering he

Location

This retreat will take place at the Asturias Yoga Retreat Center in Asturias, Spain. Known as a natural paradise (in Spanish as “paraíso natural”), Asturias comprises spectacular geographical features, the Spanish traditional culture, and Europe’s most diverse eco-system.

It is a land of high mountain peaks in juxtaposition with sandy ocean beaches and sea-cliffs and is famous for verdant mountain forests, green valleys, and renowned cave-aged cheeses.

Here, the yoga practice aims to deepen sensitivity and to unleash blocked energy so that you may live yoga. The virgin nature, the tranquility of the forest, and the presence of powerful elements support the deepening of this sensation.

The exact location of the retreat will be halfway between Cangas de Onis and Arenas der Cabrales towns, on the lower slopes of the Picos de Europa mountains, not so far from the ocean, in a quiet chestnut, hazel, and oak forest.

Food

We provide three vegetarian meals per day: breakfast, lunch and a light dinner. We source our vegetables locally according to the season, use primarily organic and vegan ingredients, and provide many home-made specialties, such as sourdough bread, spicy chai, nettle pesto, mountain spring water, fresh herbs for infusions, and marmalades from our fruit trees. Meals are designed for a balanced diet, with foods that are easy to digest, kind to the environment and full of vitality. Our residential vegan and ayurvedic nutritionists assist with menu design and food preparation and are available for personalized nutrition consultations.

If you are someone who prefers multiple snacks throughout the day, you may also bring your own food/snacks to supplement and use the communal kitchen for storage. The closest large supermarkets are in Cangas de Onis or Posada, both approximately 20km away. However, there are various smaller shops nearby in Benia (2km from the yoga center) and at the Campsite Picos de Europa (1 kilometer downhill from the yoga center)
