Dear guest, if you're reading this, we're sending you lots of love, peace & light from our beautiful village, Sesandan Megati in Bali. 2020 has been rather difficult for us as many Balinese families' livelihoods rely on tourism. Baliuma Retreats team took this 'break' to teach all of their staff yoga and have taken lots of biosecurity measures to ensure the retreat center Covid-19-proof. Join one of the most popular all-inclusive resorts in Asia - Baliuma Retreats into an authentic Balinese cultural and wellness experience filled with ancient yoga & meditation practices, chakra opening, pranayama, Tai Chi and Balinese Martial Arts to open up your perspectives, connect with who you are on a deeper level and explore what it truly means to relax, recharge and look after your body and mind (and have fun!!!). Super fun cultural excursions/workshops such as Rice Farming, Balinese Swing, Waterfall Purification, Balinese Music/Language Class, Jungle Trekking (and soooo many more!) will for sure make you fall in love with Bali and the friendliest Balinese people!
Baliuma Retreats is part of Balitrees Group and a joint effort of the local ashram, perguruan Seruling Dewata, and the villagers of Sesandan. During your retreat, you can choose to stay in a shared or private guesthouse room or homestay room.
Guesthouse rooms are located within the retreat center, surrounded by stunning rice paddies and coconut trees that will take your breath away. There is also a newly built pool, spa center, meditation garden, reception, lounge, and yoga shala at the retreat site. The guesthouse rooms are traditional Balinese style bungalows decorated with a unique bohemian touch. Each ensuite room has a flat-screen TV, air-conditioner, bathtub, shower, toilet, wardrobe, desk, and beautiful beds fitted with soft Egyptian cotton beddings. All the artworks in the rooms are beautifully done by artists from the village.
Homestay rooms are located only a short walk away from the retreat centre (five to eight minutes away). They are part of local Balinese people’s homes. Staying in these super comfy homestay rooms offers guests a great chance to be part of the village life and connect deeper with Balinese Hindu culture and its local people. Each room has a garden-facing terrace, a lounge area, a flat-screen TV, air-conditioner, shower, wardrobe, desk, and cozy beds with Balinese style beddings.
The retreat is run only by local people in a traditional Balinese village away from other tourism. It is the perfect place for you to get away from busy tourist parts of Bali to unwind, recharge, and rejuvenate your body, mind, and soul. Most importantly, this retreat is about you. It’s about taking time for yourself to observe yourself, to understand yourself, to reconnect with yourself, and to love yourself in a kinder way.
Take this incredible journey for yourself, and come to help Baliuma Retreats spread the love for Traditional Balinese Watukaru Yoga, share ancient Balinese wisdom, and support the local community! Traditonal Balinese Watukaru Yoga is one of the oldest yoga practices in the world. It is said that thousands of years ago, 13 yogis from India (each practice their own style of yoga) came to Bali to practice on the top of Mount Watukaru, also known as Batukaru Mountain.
The spiritual energy of Bali (the Island of the Gods) inspired the 13 yogis, who took the best of their own yoga practices and created Balinese Yoga. They gave it the name Balinese Watukaru Yoga to pay tribute to the beautiful mountain on which they practiced together. Beauty, grace, spirituality, and strength are some of the stunning features of traditional Balinese Watukaru Yoga. It focuses on the mind and one's spiritual awakening, hence the emphasis on meditation and the inner flow of energy in its practice.
Held by traditional Balinese Watukaru Yoga practitioners that believe without meditation and chanting, yoga is just an exercise/sport and the physical practice of yoga is the preparation for meditation, which helps you to silence your mind and heal your body. During this retreat, you will have access to one of the oldest spiritual ashrams in the world, Pasraman Seruling Dewata, which still conserves all of the original 13 styles of yoga exactly how they have created thousands of years ago in the Himalayas.
Apart from your two daily yoga classes followed by meditation, you can take part in two villages or cultural activities every day, such as rice farming, waterfall purification, coconut oil making, Balinese cooking class, Balinese language workshop, traditional Balinese dance performances, and so many more! You will share these beautiful four days with likeminded people from around the globe, open your mind to the diversity and beauty of cultures, philosophies, practices, and beliefs.
The spiritual energy of this peaceful village of Sesandan will elevate your spirit and renew your body, mind, and soul. A beautiful opportunity to experience authentic Balinese Hindu culture while practicing yoga and self-love! Baliuma Retreats can't wait to welcome and grow with you!
All of the amazing cultural activities/excursions are listed below to choose from:
