Online Meditation Retreat

This at-home online retreat will encourage the deepening of concentration through a relaxed and skilled development of mindfulness with breathing. The teachings will explore the role of concentration on the liberating path. Shaila will guide meditations, and share techniques gleaned from her extensive experience with jhana practice. This program will illuminate the powerful role that right concentration plays on the path of awakening. Both new and experienced meditators are welcome.

How the retreat works

Join Shaila Catherine as we deepen our practice and strengthen concentration together through a weekend at-home meditation retreat. The online sessions will include guided meditations, Dharma talks, question and answer sessions, and small group discussions.

More information, an expanded schedule, and a link to join the video conferences will be sent to registrants a few days prior to the retreat.

About the retreat

What is Jhana

Jhānas are states of deep concentration and meditative absorption that develop when attention is focused on suitable meditative objects. Jhāna practices create conducive conditions for penetrative insight into the nature of mind-body experience, thus facilitating awakening.

Four states of absorption, called the first jhāna, second jhāna, third jhāna, and the fourth jhāna, are characterized by sequentially refined qualities of joy, pleasure, equanimity, peace, stability, mental agility, and balance of mind.

In Buddhist traditions, jhānas are always practiced with a foundation of virtuous living and the right view that understands the aim of this liberating path.
