How the course works

The course consists of 8 weekly 1.5-1.75 hour sessions. The acceptance onto the eight-week course is dependent on completing a registration form and having an initial 20-minute induction call via Zoom.

In accordance with the Good Practice guidelines, as outlined by the UK network for mindfulness-based teachers, the registration process includes a brief induction talk between teacher and participant to determine suitability for the course and to give more detailed information about what the eight-week course entails.

Please note that this online course is not suitable for people who have just gone through trauma or are suffering from severe mental or psychological difficulties.

Timing of sessions (BST/GMT+1)

You can arrange the timing of private sessions with Drama2Calmer Mindfulness. The days the course can be conducted are Mondays from 4:30 p.m., Tuesdays all day, Wednesdays all day, Thursdays after 4:30 p.m., Fridays after 5:30 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays all day.

Course information

MBSR is an eight-week evidence-based program that offers secular, intensive mindfulness training. It is designed to help participants develop their own mindfulness practice and learn new ways of handling difficult physical sensations, feelings, and moods.

It was developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn and his colleagues at the University of Massachusetts Medical Centre in 1979 and it is now taught all over the world. It is particularly helpful for people suffering from stress, anxiety, depression, and pain. But also supports anyone who would like to incorporate mindfulness into their daily lives and find balance, calm, and overall well-being.

The session themes are:

  • Session 1 - What is mindfulness (there is more right with you than wrong)
  • Session 2 - Perception and creative responding (how you perceive the world and yourself)
  • Session 3 - Mindfulness of the breath and the body in movement (there is both pleasure and power in being present)
  • Session 4 - Learning about your patterns of stress reactivity (wherever you go, there you are)
  • Session 5 - Working with stress (mindful responding instead of reacting)
  • Session 6 - Stressful communications (interpersonal mindfulness)
  • Session 7 - Lifestyle choices (how can you best take care of yourself?)
  • Session 8 - A mindful life (keeping your mindfulness alive)

Mindfulness is a practical approach which trains attention, allowing people to cultivate awareness and therefore enabling them to have more choice and take wise action in their lives. This can have a beneficial effect on lots of different areas of life, such as health, personal, and professional relationships, mental health and overall well-being, coping with stress in work and career.

The benefits of mindfulness and meditation are numerous and in adults the practice has been shown to positively influence the brain including impulse control, decision making, perspective taking, emotional regulation, learning, and memory. It can also has a variety of physical health benefits, such as lowering blood pressure, improving sleep, reducing pain, etc.
