You will be staying at beautiful hotels run by caring local families. Each hotel is selected for its quiet and inspiring location, unique decor, and focus on comfort and beauty. The Guilin hotel is also a museum and is full of Chinese antiques collected by the owners. It is located alongside a beautiful lakeside park and has some of the most incredible views from its top floor restaurant. The Yangshuo hotel is quietly located at the end of a village road, alongside the Li river. Each room has an incredible view of the Karst towers, river, and bamboo forests. The final accommodation is in a family run guesthouse amongst the rice terraces of the 800 year old village of Ping'an.


This retreat is perfect for all levels of yoga and outdoor adventure experience. The free-style blend of strong Vinyasa Flow, Hatha, Yin, moving and seated meditation, and pranayama can be adjusted to accommodate your personal goals. All adventure activities can also be adjusted for varying levels of challenge.

The daily schedule is balanced between time together, and personal time to explore. In your free time you can choose to get a little more Yang or surrender more fully to the Yin. If the fierce warrior calls, you may wish to visit the mud caves, head out for motorbike village exploration, test your bargaining skills with some shopping, go for some more rock climbing, or countryside biking. If the Yin beckons, relax with a book on the patio of the riverside hotel, go for a Chinese medicine treatment or massage, wander the quiet riverside, float on a bamboo raft, or learn more about Chinese cooking.

Day 1, Guilin

  • Arrival at Guilin hotel by 14:00
  • Evening opening circle, meditation, and sharing
  • Setting intentions and introducing the Taoist traditions and how they relate to the journey
  • Evening walking exploration of Guilin, three lakes, pagodas, and dinner in the Buddhist vegetarian restaurant

Day 2, Guilin, Yangshuo

  • Morning meditation and yoga
  • Breakfast in the unique riverside museum hotel
  • Travel to Yangshuo by private transportation
  • Once you arrive in Yangshuo you will rest and explore this beautiful town full of 70,000 Karst towers
  • Evening walk to town for reflexology and family style dinner

Day 3, Yangshuo, 800 year old village of Fuli, Ancient Liugong

  • Morning Tai Chi and talk about Taoist philosophy from a local teacher
  • Visit the Fuli local market and delve into local life
  • Learn Chinese fan painting and create your own fan art to take home
  • Kayak down the Li Jiang river amongst the rice patties, local villages, water buffalo, and Karst towers

Day 4, Yangshuo

  • Morning yoga and meditation
  • Hike up the unique Karst arch of moon hill for the most incredible 360 degree view
  • Return for lunch and an introduction to Chinese medicine with a local Chinese doctor, then receive a one and a half hour treatment of massage, acupuncture, or cupping

Day 5, Yangshuo

  • Morning Tai Chi
  • Led by a guide with 35 years of experience and expertise, you will move your yoga practice to the vertical and go rock climbing
  • It is a day of pushing the limits of your mind and body and embodying an even greater state of the fierce warrior
  • Evening riverside yoga and relaxation

Day 6, Yangshuo

  • Start the day with yoga and meditation
  • Next go biking through the picturesque local villages, rice fields, and alongside the dragon river
  • Return to town to visit the local market and learn to cook a Chinese dinner at the countryside cooking school

Day 7, Yangshuo

  • A free day to delve deeper into whatever and wherever your heart calls
  • The evening will bring the group back together for a celebration Buddhist vegetarian dinner and the world famous Sister Liu light show

Day 8, Yangshuo to Longshen

  • Morning Tai Chi
  • Travel by private minivan to the rice terraces of Longshen
  • Along the way you will visit the organic tea farm of Sanjilu and in here you will tour the tea gardens and sample their offerings through a traditional tea ceremony and tasting
  • Next will be an evening hike to your hotel nestled amongst the rice fields in the beautiful village of Ping'an
  • You will experience village life first hand as you connect with the beautiful Zhuang minority group
  • Evening meditation overlooking the terraces

Day 9, Longshen

  • Morning mountainside yoga and meditation with a day of silent trekking through beautiful villages, inspiring views, and an opportunity to go deeper into a state of meditation

Day 10, Longshen

  • Morning mountainside yoga and meditation
  • Option to trek or relax in the villages and rice terraces
  • Evening closing, dinner, sharing, and relaxation

Day 11, Longshen to Guilin and Beyond

  • Morning yoga
  • Breakfast
  • Departure to Guilin Liangjiang International Airport (KWL)

The journey takes place in the incredible landscape of Guangxi province in Southern China. You will adventure from the romantic lake city of Guilin, to Yangshuo, the Li river village of 70,000 limestone Karst towers, then onto the rice terrace villages of Longshen. You will weave in and out of Yin and Yang as you adventure in remote villages, the silence and beauty of unique natural landscapes, and amidst bustling Chinese culture.


The price of the retreat includes happy healthy foods that make your bodies and minds feel great. You will be eating mostly vegetarian, with options to include fish, and sometimes also having an option to include some meat if you like. The meals will support the activities of the journey and will be a nutritious mix of local cuisine with some western favorites. Oftentimes the meals will be family style where everyone shares many dishes and gets the opportunity to sample many things, and other times you may just choose from a set menu. There will always be plenty of food to sample and you will definitely like something being offered.
