The Riviera Maya extends along the Caribbean coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, from Puerto Morelos to the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve. What was once all small fishing villages, much of the Riviera Maya coastline has since been developed into a modern tourist corridor offering the very best of high-end luxury resorts, fine dining, nightlife, spa retreats, shopping, and golf in Mexico.
The Riviera Maya is home to some of the most stunningly beautiful beaches in all of Mexico with expansive stretches of powdery white sand lapped by the clear turquoise waters of the Caribbean sea. Its secret gem is Playa del Secreto, home to Hacienda del Secreto. Hacienda del Secreto is located only 15 minutes away from Puerto Morelos, 15 minutes from Playa del Carmen, and 45 minutes away from bustling downtown Cancun, making it the perfect location to have a private, relaxing stay while simultaneously being in close proximity to popular day-trip destinations such as Xcaret, Akumal, Isla Mujeres, Cozumel, and more.
The Riviera Maya is one of the world’s top destinations for scuba diving and snorkeling. An expansive coral reef system extending just off the coast is home to a dizzying array of marine life, including colorful tropical fish, manta rays, dolphins, and whale sharks. Scuba diving and snorkeling in the Riviera Maya are not limited to the ocean. You can also go snorkeling and cave diving in the many cenotes (underground sinkholes) that are unique to this Yucatan Peninsula.
The Riviera Maya is a top ecotourism destination in Mexico and throughout the region, the natural environment is protected and preserved. Outside of the major tourist destinations, much of the land remains relatively undeveloped so the natural beauty of the Riviera Maya and the creatures that inhabit it are left to flourish. Local eco-parks offer a taste of all that the area has to offer in controlled, family-friendly environments.
Mexico is a country rich in history, culture, and tradition, all of which you will experience when you visit the Riviera Maya. From delicious food to dances, to Mayan rituals, the Mayan Riviera stays true. Come and experience it for yourself and stay at Hacienda del Secreto.
On grounds, Hacienda del Secreto’s private restaurant will serve up to two delicious meals and anything extra you desire. Vegetarian and gluten-free options will be available if requested upon reservation. Food and drinks served outside of the retreat menu are not included in the price.
From May to October, giant 300-pound sea turtles arrive at Playa del Secreto each year to lay their eggs. Each night, as many as 10 new nests can be found on the Playa del Secreto beach. You may sit in the sand next to these wonderful creatures and watch as they lay their eggs and then walk with them as they return to the sea. It is an experience of a lifetime!
Once you arrive at the beach, what will you do? Many of us like to simply lie back, soak up the sun, and catch up on some reading. But for those who desire a little more excitement, ask the guest services team to arrange a parasail trip or a day kitesurfing rental. Both are sure to give you something thrilling to do on the beach of Playa Secreto. They also have five ocean kayaks at Hacienda del Secreto, which are yours to use while staying with them!
Want to experience the colors of the Mayan Riviera underwater? Snorkeling trips to nearby reefs are available and run daily. You can choose from two-hour trips to full-day tours on fully equipped boats with bathroom facilities, snacks, beers, soft drinks, and more.
For mini-exploration, there is a reef on Playa Secreto that is abundant with micro-life and coral.
The Mayan Riviera is rich with natural beauty. Not only does it have some of the most stunning beaches in all of the Caribbean, arguably the world, but between the states of Quintana Roo and the Yucatan, there are over 6,000 cenotes. What is a cenote, you might wonder. Simply stated, a cenote is an underground cave or sinkhole near to the earth’s crust, that has been transformed by nature’s turbulence, revealing stunning freshwater pools, caverns, and deep caves. And there are 6,000 of them!
Being one of the most desired activities by tourists in this area, you are encouraged to go and explore! Close to home, there are some of the more rural cenotes, just a 20-minute drive away near the small fishing village of Puerto Morales. You can also choose to visit archaeological sites, such as Chichen Itza or Ek-Balam, both of which have beautiful deep cenotes for your viewing. In Ek-Balam, the plus is that you can still climb in and swim with guidance from one of the professional tour companies here in the Mayan Riviera.
More recently, Ek-Balam or the 'Bright Star Jaguar' in the Maya language, has been restored and is, therefore, a very interesting site to see! On this tour, you discover the mysterious Maya Cenote, enjoy its beautiful rock formations and a great natural pool of 80-meter diameter. During the tour, you come into contact with many different and friendly Maya communities.
The diving options are truly endless here in the Yucatan Peninsula. Depending on your level and experience, Hacienda del Secreto can recommend a few companies. Are you looking to gain instructor hours or certifications, Mexico is the best place to do it, with a wide variety of diving sites. One of Hacienda del Secreto's favorite sites is the Hurricane Wilma shipwreck in Isla Mujeres, C-58.

An unforgettable off-track adventure. Ride through the exuberant rain forest on the all-terrain Mercedes Benz Unimogs.
Live a great experience rappelling into a beautiful cenote and swim in Yaxmuul, a unique natural pool. Enjoy nature and fly over the jungle’s foliage on exciting ziplines. Discover a mystic cenote where you will participate in a traditional Maya purification ceremony. All the locations are exclusive for Hacienda del Secreto's small groups.
