House of Zen has a 50-square meter rooftop terrace overlooking the sea and Cascais Marina that brings you the ocean breeze and a perfect setting to start the day with your daily yoga practice. Access to a 500-square meter garden of flowers and trees will awaken your senses. An indoor yoga shala, sunny balconies, and common areas will provide you with tranquility and space to relax, read a book, or meditate.

Sound sleep is guaranteed in comfortable bedrooms with double or twin beds. Brand new, minimalist design furniture garnishes each of House of Zen's six bedrooms, three large shared bathrooms, and additional toilet. The rooms are named after different plants and spices: Cinnamon, Bamboo, Shatavari, Ginger, and Neem.

Cleanliness is this house's top priority and the bathrooms are cleaned twice daily. Rooms are shared in either double or twin basis. Accommodation services include cleaning service, shower and hand towels, shampoo and shower gel, individual shower outing carpet, and drinking water.

House of Zen Yoga Retreat Itinerary

In order to join House of Zen throughout this journey, you don't need any previous yoga or meditation knowledge. All you need is to open your mind and senses to inner exploration and development. You will work at developing attention, sensitivity, and awareness through sitting and walking meditation, while in contact with the sea breeze, the open space blue sky and the stunning coastal views of the region.

Day 1

  • 14:00 Arrival. Upon arrival, you will have time to rest and explore the House of Zen's peaceful settings. The nearest beach is just 5 minutes' walk from the place.
  • 18:30 A yoga class early evening to help you open the way for a good night of sleep.

Day 2

  • 09:30 Rise and shine. Awaken your body with your second yoga practice. Breathe deeply!
  • 10:45 Enjoy a delicious healthy breakfast
  • 11:30 Walking and sitting meditation will allow you to discover the beautiful coastal area of Estoril and Cascais in a very special way. Either in winter to autumn or spring to the summer season, the coastline offers inspiring views, awakening your senses, and offering you a sense of freedom.
  • 13:30 Return to House of Zen, followed by free time for lunch and your own program.

Day 3

  • 09:00 Breakfast
  • 09:30 You will then have your second mindful outdoor walk. Explore a bit to further the possibilities of mindfulness and meditation. Observe how these moments bring you tranquility and control over your body, mind, and spirit.

Instructors

Cátia
Catia is a "lisboeta", meaning born in Lisbon. She enjoys teaching yoga with a focus on breathing techniques and mindfulness. She was certified in India, having traveled to Thailand and Australia where she took wellness training courses, including massage therapies. Catia believes cultivating yoga is a profound body, mind and soul expression, while the Universe and the alignments of the planets and stars influence each one of us. She teaches Hatha, Yoga Nidra, and Meditation and also leads meditative walks.
Kimma
Kimma simply loves teaching yoga. With lots of yoga teacher training courses from the US and Thailand, she is an experienced instructor teaching Hatha, gentle Vinyasa, Yin, Restorative and other styles. In her classes, you will be able to learn new insights on yoga philosophy and history and her own life experience. Originally from New Jersey, Kimma lived in Chiang Mai before moving to Portugal, attracted by the sunny weather and the beautiful sea in Estoril coastal area. She is also a certified Thai massage therapist, able to provide both relaxing and vigorous massage treatments.
Maryam
Maryam Madantji is a registered general nurse and off time nurse. She is a yoga instructor and a food adviser. Maryam holds a second bachelors degree in European public health and a Masters of Health Food Innovation Management, both from Maastricht University. Aside from health and food nutrition, she is also a passionate Ashtanga and Vinyasa instructor at House of Zen, drawn by the philosophy and lifestyle of yoga. Her focus in this workshop is to offer awareness for a mindful, healthy, and balanced nutritional state.
Silvia
Silvia loves teaching slow flow and Hatha, gentle approaches to the yoga asanas that focus on body alignment and self-awareness. She has a soothing melting voice and an inspiring filled with grace yoga practice. She is also leading House of Zen's outdoor meditative walks, offering new paths of well-being, mindfulness, and connection among all living beings. Silvia was born in Portugal but grew up and lived most of her life in California. She was trained as a yoga instructor in the US and has since then taught in Portugal exploring different styles and approaches to yoga practice.
Juliette
Yoga Alliance RYT 200 (Hatha Yoga, Iyengar Yoga)
Juliette found in yoga the place of her own tranquility and safety, essential to keep balance. She started teaching right after her instructor certification in Costa Rica and loves to share her thoughts and feelings about yoga during classes. Juliette teaches Hatha and Vinyasa, with both gentle and more intense versions of yoga practice. She has an East meets West background. Juliette was brought up in the beautiful island of Bali, and has also studied and lived in Germany. She loves the sea, the sun and the easy-going lifestyle of Portugal!
Coco
Coco is inspired by the brightness and colors of the rainbow. She was born French, but lived in London and also in South America, before moving to Portugal. Yoga changed her life profoundly when she was 20 years old, making her want to be a yoga teacher and pursuit her own yogi path. Certified in Hatha and Vinyasa, you can feel how passionate she is during her classes, while at the same time her tranquility and positive energy drive you throughout the practice that will always be accompanied by her beautiful smile.
Cathrine
Freedom and its infinite possibilities. This is what best describes Cathrine's lifestyle approach. Born in Norway, the land of the magical dark nights and memorable auroras, Cathrine brings in her own mystical, enticing aura into her classes, exploring the edges of the best version of yourselves. Her Vinyasa classes are challenging and vigorous. Practicing yoga since her 15 years old, yoga is a beautiful journey in body, mind, and spirit where there is no goal, only awareness. She did her teaching training in Sweeden, having years of experience in Norway, Southern Europe, including Portugal.

This retreat will take place in Estoril, Portugal. Estoril is a top tourism destination in Portugal, attracted by the marvelous beaches, the picturesque scenery, and its convenient location. Lisbon is just 30 minutes in distance and it is also very close to many places of interest, such as Sintra, Cabo da Roca, Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, or Mafra.

During this retreat, you will be served six lacto-ovo-vegetarian breakfasts.   • Take the A5 highway at Cascais to Lisbon direction.
  • Take the Exit 9 to Estrada Marginal N6-8 Estoril / Alcoitão / Bicesse / Manique.
  • At the roundabout, take the second exit.
  • Proceed to the next roundabout and the first exit at the roundabout.
  • Proceed down the road, turn right to Rua Fernando Pessoa 2, and you will have arrived at House of Zen.

Driving directions from Cascais, Estrada Marginal N6-8

  • Take the Estrada Marginal N6-8 to Lisbon direction.
  • Proceed through the road for two kilometers and 100 meters, at Estoril turn left to Avenida Bombeiros Voluntários.
  • Turn second right to Rua Dr. Mário Quina.
  • Turn right to Rua Dr. António Martins / N6-8.
  • Turn left to Rua J.A. Ferreira.
  • Proceed to Rua Santa Rita and, at the crossroad, proceed straight up to the same street.
  • Turn right to Rua Fernando Pessoa 2 and you will have arrived at House of Zen.

Driving directions from Lisbon Portela Airport (LIS)

  • Take the highway 2 Circular / E1 to Cascais direction.
  • Take the Exit 1 to IC17-CRIL / Algés A5 Cascais.
  • Take the exit to A5 Cascais.
  • Take the Exit 9 to N6-8 / Estoril / Alcoitão.
  • At the roundabout, take the third exit to N6-8.
  • Proceed to next roundabout and take the first exit.
  • Proceed on the road, turn right to Rua Fernando Pessoa 2, and you will have arrived at House of Zen.

Arrival by train

From Lisbon Portela Airport (LIS), take the subway red line, and hop off at the end of the line at Alameda station. Afterward, take the subway green line and hop off at the end of the line at Cais do Sodré station. Take the train at Cais do Sodré train station to Cascais direction. Hop off at São João do Estoril train station. From here, you might choose to walk 15 to 20 minutes to your destination or take a taxi.

If you choose walking, you can walk to Avenida Florinda Leal, turn right at Avenida Florinda Leal, and keep walking until the end of the road. Then, turn left at Rua João António Gaspar, turn on the second right to Rua do Monte Leite, proceed right up through the street, and turn on the second left to Rua Fernando Pessoa 2 to arrive at House of Zen.

From Cascais, take the train at Cascais train station to Lisbon direction and hop off at São João do Estoril train station. From here, you might choose to walk 15 to 20 minutes to your destination or take a taxi.

If you choose walking, you can walk to Avenida Florinda Leal, turn right at Avenida Florinda Leal, and keep walking until the end of the road.
