The Shala Bali is set in tranquil rice paddy field near the village of Penestanan, but just a 25-minute walk from the center of Ubud. The Shala features tastefully furnished rooms in the Balinese style, a restaurant, pool, and a large, timber-floored, fully-equipped yoga shala.

During the retreat, Flo's focus will be on paring back complicated and unnecessary parts of yoga practice to reveal the true foundation of each technique. This retreat offers a deep insight into yoga for all levels. Those who are experienced teachers regularly come to learn from Flo for fine tuning, to learn the latest teaching tools and tips, and to re-inspire their own practice and teaching, whilst those who are just starting out on their yoga journey will be led into the practice at a level that is appropriate and beneficial.

The program begins on Saturday, September 29 at 6:00 p.m. with opening circle followed by dinner. Program ends with closing circle on the last evening, Friday October 5. You will leave the next morning on Sunday, October 6. There will be a half day excursion on either the Wednesday or Thursday, with free time for the rest of that day.

Sample daily schedule

  • 07:30 - 08:00 Meditation. A variety of traditional, guided sitting meditation techniques (those who cannot sit can lie down or sit with back against wall)
  • 08:00 - 10:30 Therapeutic Vinyasa style yoga asana. Using a flowing, focused sequence of postures, we will address the fundamental asanas to build a deeper understanding of postural bio-mechanics and learn to manage common areas of pain, tightness, and weakness in the body. Though the practice is strength and fitness building, Flo creates a strong focus of awareness on the subtleties of the physical postures, core-strength, and the movement of the breath in the body. There will be alternatives given to those whose injuries or postural peculiarities prevent them from performing a posture with total comfort and safety. This practice will be of benefit to all, beginners to advanced students or teachers.
  • 11:00 - 12:00 Buffet brunch at the venue's restaurant.
  • 12:00 - 16:00 Free time to have a massage, read, swim or explore the glorious environment, with rice paddy walks, shopping, or cultural sight-seeing in Ubud
  • 16:00 - 18:00 Introspective yoga asana, pranayama, meditation, and yoga Nidra. This session will be of particular benefit to those seeking a way to use their yoga practice to relax and "tune-in" at a deeper level. In this session, you will explore various breathing techniques, meditation, and yoga Nidra (guided visualization and deep-relaxation) to bring about a deep experience of connectedness with the very subtlest layers of our being. especially beneficial to those who have had a strongly asana focused practice, or those who have stressful lives, and are not familiar with yoga Nidra. It is blissful!
  • 18:30 Evening meal. You will either eat in at the house restaurant or explore Ubud’s wealth of cafes and restaurants

    Yoga Alliance E-RYT 500 (Yoga)

    Flo is a regular contributor to Australian Yoga Life magazine, and writes the regular Yoga Matters segment for Nature and Health magazine. She is currently registered with Yoga Alliance at the highest possible level of teaching experience, ERYT-500, and is also a member of Yoga Australia. Her style is both meditative and enlivening, balancing the active and the passive sides of our nature. As we focus within, developing the capacity to witness ourselves, the sessions themselves become a form of Yoga Therapy, which flows out into our lives beyond the classroom.
