Mahadevi Ashram is a unique sanctuary dedicated to spiritual growth and expansion of consciousness through ancient Vedic and yogic practices. The ashram was created as a safe and powerful container for transformation, providing beneficial surroundings and a sacred atmosphere to explore the inner workings of existence through the fire of transformation known as the Great Goddess.
The facilities are shared and include solar hot showers, a fully-equipped vegetarian kitchen, stone-built steam room by a clear mountain creek with bathing pools, a cozy communal space with fireplace, an inspiring library, permaculture gardens, Wi-Fi access, and free use of the yoga halls outside class hours.
All who attend a Hridaya meditation retreat must conscientiously undertake the following five precepts for the duration of the course:
All students must observe noble silence from the beginning of the course until the evening of the last day. Noble silence means silence of the body, speech, and mind. Any form of communication with fellow student, whether by gestures, sign language, written notes, et cetera is prohibited.
Students may, however, write notes to the teachers whenever necessary and to the retreat coordinator with any problem related to food, accommodation, health, et cetera. But even these contacts should be kept to a minimum. You should cultivate the feeling that you are working in isolation.
Complete segregation of men and women is to be maintained. Couples, married or otherwise, should not contact each other in any way during the course. The same applies to friends, members of the same family, et cetera.
It is important that throughout the course there will be no physical contact whatsoever between individuals of the same or opposite sex.
The playing of musical instruments, radios, et cetera is not permitted. Reading books et cetera is not allowed. Students can take notes during the lectures and refer to the notes in the free time.
These may not be used except with the express permission of the teacher.
Notes: The duration of this retreat is five days. Students will arrive one day before the retreat and leave one day after the retreat. This retreat is suitable for beginner and intermediate levels.
Mahadevi Ashram's eco-friendly, enchanting environment of bamboo and earth architecture is set in a lush jungle garden overlooking Lake Atitlan, Guatemala and is welcoming visitors only for the events, training, courses, and personal retreats offered. The Mayan heartland of Lake Atitlan, or 'Grandma Atitlan' as the indigenous population calls it, is an ideal high-vibrational location to dive deep into matters of spirit and truth.
It is not possible to satisfy the special food preferences and requirements of all the meditators. Students are therefore kindly requested to make do with the simple vegetarian meals provided. The course management endeavors to prepare a balanced, wholesome menu suitable for meditation. If you have been prescribed a special diet because of ill health, you should inform the management at the time of application. Fasting is not permitted. The premises are free of alcohol, tobacco, drugs, and meat or fish.
Please book your flight to arrive at La Aurora International Airport (GUA). Transfer from this airport is available upon request. Kaivalya Yoga School can send you a private shuttle to pick you up from the airport and deliver you straight to the door. The trip takes three to four hours and costs 125 USD (up to ten people can fit and share).
Alternatively, upon your arrival at La Aurora International Airport (GUA), take the shuttle from right outside the airport to Antigua, a safe and beautiful colonial town. There are direct shuttles to Lake Atitlan from Antigua and San Cristobal de las Casas (Chiapas, Mexico). The shuttles go to Panajachel (fastest) or San Marcos La Laguna (longer and windy, but more beautiful and cheaper). From either place, simply take a boat ('la lancha') to Tzununa. From the Tzununa pier, catch a 'tuctuc' up the hill to 'El ashram' for 5 GTQ per person. The drivers will know it.
