As a human, you would want to feel in control. However, Zen encourages you to take a fresh look at your inbred beliefs, to make mistakes and not be horrified by them. Zen acknowledges that there will always be conflicts in your life and encourages you not to dwell upon them. Kerala is always green, and during the monsoon season, its greenery positively explodes and it is a great time to have a well-deserved mini-break.
During this retreat, you will stay in comfortable homestay accommodation with A/C or Non-A/C room at Ganesh House. It is only a short walk from Kin- Hin. There is Wi-Fi, hot water, breakfast, and kitchen facilities provided.
In its beginning stages, Zazen is a practice of concentration. More than just meditation, Zazen is a powerful tool for self-inquiry. Through Zazen, you can come to grasp Dogen's definition of Zen, to forget yourself and be enlightened by the ten thousand things and through that understanding, you have the potential to transform your life.
Zen is not a technique to be learned, it is more of an attitude toward life and Zen meditation is a superb spiritual practice with no technique to learn and no promises extended.
Understanding Zen means understanding yourself. This understanding cannot be found in books. One needs to experience Zen and the experience needs to be first hand. Zen is to experience observing all your thoughts without acting on them. Be the master of your mind and not a slave.
Karen came to India in 1997 for a three-week holiday and decided to make Kerala her home. For 10 years, she ran yoga and massage holidays in Kovalam. From 2007 until mid-2012, she lived, worked, served, and followed Zen at Bodhi Zendo, blessed to have guidance and support from a Zen master, AMA Samy. She then returned to the 'marketplace' and began a new chapter with Kin-Hin. She is also a qualified aromatherapist with over 20 years experience. Her diploma in holistic aromatherapy was obtained from the Tisserand Institute in London in 1993.
During this retreat, you will be served with breakfast at your accommodation. They will serve you additional meals on request for an extra charge. There are kitchen facilities for guest use and a variety of restaurants close by.
You will be given free time to relax and enjoy Kerala. There are small, local eateries close by. You can dine in restaurants or buy food from supermarkets along Kovalam Junction. There are attractions you can explore in Kovalam Beach. This is an idyllic spot to watch the Indian sunset.
The local tours can be arranged for you plus opportunities to experience village life.
