During the retreat, you will be residing at Kin-Hin Zen Meditation Center. The center is located in Pachalloor, between Trivandrum and Kovalam, by the Arabian Sea and the Karamana river.

Kin-Hin offers a homestay accommodation and has two large and airy guest rooms with a private sit-out. The rooms are well-furnished with modern en suite bathrooms which provide solar-heated hot water. Wi-Fi, filtered water, tea and coffee are all available for you.


Laughter yoga

Laughter yoga is unique as it teaches a way to laugh for no reason. It incorporates yoga breathing techniques and laughing exercises. During a laughter yoga session, you will be able to experience how even forced laughter in a group setting will quickly become true laughter; spreading like a virus as the nature of laughter is infectious.

Scientific proof shows that the body does not know the difference between fake and real laughter, and will receive the bodily and psychological benefit regardless. Laughter yoga began in 1995 and was the brain child of Dr. Madan Kataria, a medical doctor from Mumbai.

Inspired by documentation that showed laughter to be the best medicine, he began a laughing club in the local park with five people. Today there are thousands of yoga laughter clubs in over 72 countries around the world - a testimony to the benefits of laughter.


The peace that comes with exercizing the body and stilling the mind is your true nature and the essence of yoga and meditation practice. Sivan leads the yoga classes at Kin-Hin. The style is traditional Sivananda (Hatha) yoga. Yoga sessions with Sivan include breathing exercises or pranayama, sun salutations, postures or asanas, and guided relaxation. Sivan brings over 15 years of teaching experience to his classes and is a qualified acharya.

Zen meditation

Zen is not a technique to be learned, it is more of an attitude toward life. Zen meditation is a superb spiritual practice with no technique to learn and no promises extended. Sitting with others will give you the chance to connect with one another on a profound level without the need for words. Combine this with a good bout of laughter to reduce stress and tensions and you have the ultimate short break.


Karen Sivan
Karen came to India in 1997 for a three-week holiday and decided to make Kerala her home. For 10 years, she ran yoga and massage holidays in Kovalam. From 2007 until mid-2012, she lived, worked, served, and followed Zen at Bodhi Zendo, blessed to have guidance and support from a Zen master, AMA Samy. She then returned to the 'marketplace' and began a new chapter with Kin-Hin. She is also a qualified aromatherapist with over 20 years experience. Her diploma in holistic aromatherapy was obtained from the Tisserand Institute in London in 1993.
Sivan grew up in Pachalloor. He is an experienced yoga teacher in India and Europe and he has a wealth of local knowledge about the area and its customs.


This retreat takes place in Pachalloor, Kerala, India. It is a peaceful location with stunning views.

How to get there

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Trivandum International Airport (TRV). Kin-Hin will pick you up from the airport. The pick-up is included in the price.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 20% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid on arrival.
