The Pomegranate is a small oasis of comfort and style, surrounded by rural scenery and small farms. It has lovely views over the sea, and is backed by mountains, where the well-known Lycian Trail has marked paths to take you through the forests and mountains on this lovely section of coastline. The walks start from right outside the hotel.
The Pomegranate was named after the fruit of the same name, native to Turkey and the Mediterranean. The fruit with its ruby red seeds and health giving properties has symbolic and mythological associations with natural cycles, rebirth, and renewal, which Katrina hopes youll experience on your yoga holiday here. The Pomegranate has been created for those who want convenience and comfort, while still surrounded by authentic and rural Turkey on this unspoilt stretch of coastline.
Staying at The Pomegranate is very much like being a houseguest - it's a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere, particularly welcoming for people holidaying on their own. There is also plenty of space to be by yourself and be quiet if you wish. The Pomegranate has been designed with great attention and care, featuring natural materials, stone and cedar, and furnished tastefully with wood, rattan and stunning fabrics. The large and mature gardens offer plenty of shady nooks for curling up with a good book, or simply unwinding.
The yoga will be gentle and stretchy Hatha yoga. The classes are suitable for absolute beginners - right through to those looking to deepen their regular practice. Over the course of the week, you will develop your core strength, while creating openness and flexibility in your body and mind. You will learn how to listen to your body; developing your intuition, self-trust, self-esteem and self-confidence. During the week you will have the space to clarify and connect with your hopes and dreams for the future.
The hotel is situated on Turkeys famous Turquoise Coast. The area is renowned for its natural beauty and is just twenty minutes southeast of Olu Deniz, which has one of the worlds most photographed beaches.
One thing you can be sure of is that you will certainly eat well while you are at Pomegranate in Turkey. Sigi and Metin combine the best of Turkish and Mediterranean cooking to provide an international twist on many traditional dishes. They also make many of their own preserves and provide fruit from their extensive garden. Turkish cooking is recognized as one of the great cuisines of the world - created by a thousand palace chefs devoted to tempting the Ottoman Sultans palate.
Village recipes are mainly vegetarian, so there are many unusual and varied vegetarian dishes from the local repertoire. Based on fresh, healthy, local, seasonal produce - fruit, vegetables, pulses, grains, nuts, cheeses, eggs and yoghurt - the food not only tastes divine but is also a nutritionists dream. The menus are vegetarian by default, but fish, chicken or meat can be provided once or twice in the week if requested by the group. KLS Global doesnt provide it on an individual basis.
Fethiye is about 30 minutes away and is the nearest large town. Set on a beautiful bay, it features shops, bazaars, seafront cafes and the ruins of the ancient city of Telmessos. It is also possible to provide day trips to a variety of locations including archeological sites and places of natural beauty.
The town has a pretty palm-lined seafront with bars and restaurants, and still retains its laid-back and friendly village atmosphere despite being one of Turkeys most up-market yachting centers. Shopping includes jewelry, carpets, ceramics, clothes, and spices. There are also banks and cash points. A favorite excursion is a visit to the Gocek Sunday morning market, followed by a lunch at a local cafe.
Guests all-time favorite day trip is a cruise around the islands and bays of this stunning coastline on a traditional wooden sailing boat. A day's cruise provides plenty of time for swimming and sunbathing, and a delicious lunch is cooked and served on board. The comfortable boats have toilets and a changing cabin on board, and provide ample deck space to stretch out in the sun or under a shaded awning. The Bay of Gocek, described by the yachting fraternity as the most beautiful in the Mediterranean, offers lovely views as well as beautiful clear water.
Dalyan is a lovely little town on a reedy river estuary about an hour from The Pomegranate. Riverboats carry guests to the spectacular Lycian rock tombs, the ancient ruins of Caunos, hot sulphur springs on Koygegiz Lake and mud baths. Alternatively you can spend the day enjoying the pristine sea and sand of Istuzu beach, a nature conservancy area at the mouth of the river.
The history of the region spans the Greeks, Romans and Persians, and before them the ancient Lycians who are thought to have come from Minoan Crete. The region is strewn with the romantic remains of Lycian cities, most of which remain un-excavated and where we are often the only visitors roaming among the temples, broken columns and amphitheaters. The favorite Lycian city to visit is Cadianda, perched on a wildly dramatic mountain top, which is also the nearest at just over an hour away. Tlos, Pinara and Xanthos are a full day's trip, but are well worth the effort if you have the time.
Another favorite guest activity is a visit to the Turkish Baths in Gocek. A delicious steam bath precedes a thorough scrubbing and exfoliation by attendants. Massage is also available. Relax and refresh Sultan-style.
