"Beautiful place, terrible food and not very helpful staff."
The resort is beautiful, it has some views looking over the ocean, it has a beautiful pool and it has great landscaping. The pool is kept very clean and has a very fun swim up bar. The rooms are great with a very large bed (not super comfy but nice) and a very nice bathroom.

"A truely sensational experience "
- The high quality spa treatments
- The amazing yoga classes
- We loved Grace (vinyasa yoga teacher). She was so happy!
- The incredibly nourishing food
- Huge and comfortable beds
- Lovely, free shuttle to the beach
- The kind staff -
It was my first wellbeing retreat and I chose the mangosteen based on the nice balance of yoga, massage and nurturing food.
My mum came with me and we were just blown away. The yoga teachers were fabulous and their classes had so much Soul. Every night, we went to bed looking forward to the yoga class in the morning! The Prana Sala is a beautiful place to practice.
After our morning yoga class (which was perfect for both beginner and well seasoned practitioners), we would go for breakfast which was so delicious! Fresh and healthy, we loved the resorts green tea and roselle juice!
The staff in the restaurant and by the pool are just amazing! They’re glowing smiles are infectious anne we so enjoyed seeing them every day!
An added bonus is that there is a free shuttle to the beach throughout the day. We would go straight after breakfast for a few hours. The beach is lovely and you can pay 100 baht for a sun lounger with umbrella which is great.
The food was sensational and the spa treatments were of incredibly high quality (better than in the UK).
For the price we paid, it exceeded our expectations. We don’t have a bad word to say! Amazing place!

The spa treatments were well worth it

I loved everything about this place. I almost didn't book it because it was out of my price range but I am so glad I did. The yoga in the morning was great and the massages were awesome. Also, I can't say enough about the meals. They were absolutely delicious. I had no idea what my lunch and dinner would be since the chef prepared fresh vegan meals that day. Very healthy and extremely tasty. I highly recommend coming here and I am trying to see when I can come back!!

"Great resort, NOT a yoga retreat"
I liked the installations of the hotel, the quietness and the friendliness of the hotel staff. Comfortable rooms and great pool area. The pool bar and min bar could benefit from healthy options (smoothies, snacks…) and I suggest the breakfast also includes vegan/vegetarian options, and that a weekly meal menu is available so that guests can chose beforehand what they want. In general it felt like a tropical resort trying to rebrand itself to attract a new kind of health-conscious clientele, without backing up its proposal with the necessary resources.

El lugar es hermoso y la atención muy buena.
January trip with a scoopon deal . Was a little apprehensive before this stay at Mangosteen resort as TripAdvisor reviews are very mixed but we were pleasantly surprised . The property is high on a hill in Rawai looking over the ocean from a distance . Yes the road leading to the resort is not great and care must be taken especially at night if heading out to restaurants so take a torch . There are some great little restaurants if you walk out and turn right from the resort .kook restaurant and Annys are our favourites . The resort restaurant was great for breakfast and the two buffets we had there during our stay . The villas are a bit dated but comfortable and quiet and relaxing on the verandahs looking over the ocean on your own private hammock . The pool is lovely and being adult only resort is very relaxing and sun beds are always available . Great happy hour ! Also Lee was very friendly and did not put any pressure on us to sign up for their holiday vacation program . We had a wonderful relaxing holiday !
My wife and I were planning our next trip to Thailand and decided for The Mangosteen. It offered a quite unique program including an Ayurveda spa experience, which seemed a good choice for our yearly reset of body and mind.
Only after booking we decided to read a few more reviews, which made us think whether or not we made a good choice. Rantings about the jacuzzi included in the room, being actually outside the room, in a secluded, but open space.
In my opinion there's nothing strange about having to lock that area, but some people seem to have a problem with that. People also complained about the minibar to be too expensive, mold in showers, mosquitoes in the room, being
stalked by salesmen wanting you to buy into time-sharing apartments and so on.
However, our stay at the mangosteen turned out to be a very nice experience. We noted that the mentioned problems about mold, mosquitoes and the expensive minibar have been addressed by Mangosteen management.
We were approached by management by the way, and had a very pleasant conversation about the history and challenges managing the place. At least it made us aware of the challenges one comes across making sure Mangosteen customers are having the best time they could wish for. Well, we did!
At arrival we were welcomed by two smiling Thai ladies, and were privileged to make acquaintance with the Indian Ayurvedic doctor which was going to support our detox and yoga activities. He has a very thoughtful somewhat shy personality.
We talked about any minor health problems we could focus on and were treated individually for these. Nothing serious, but good to have different approaches to take away any bodily inconveniences. The food arrangement was adapted to
be vegan, specifically for the Ayurveda experience (as were the spa treatments). By choice people can have other food, like seafood, veal, pork, etc. in short, there is a taste for anyone.
The spa treatments are simply wonderful. We've seen many enthusiastic reactions other than ours alone. The treatments are a surge of Thai and Indian ways, to create an Ayurvedic approach.
---- Non techies better skip this part ;-) ----
One thing I do want to mention is, the WiFi definitely needs an upgrade, or at least some tweaking. You do get some more bandwidth when streaming video, like Netflix, but other stuff seems to be throttled to an uncomfortable minimum. I figure some sort of QoS is in place. Heighten the throttle a bit, and one could actually get some work done if necessary. I'm sure management will read this review as they did the others, and take care of it. I rather have a finite, but stable connection, then an infinite one which is throttled as it is now.
We decided to write this review, because we think the reviews written up to today are outdated, and not fair to represent the current service level at The Mangosteen. It deserves a higher appraisal.
Further more, if one is aware of the fact one might be approached by certain salesmen, they are easily avoided, or sent into the woods ;-)

Having stayed at beach resorts so many times before, I opted for Mangosteen which is adults only, sits atop a hill and is sited amid trees & shrubs, grounds and flora beautifully manicured.
The accommodation is extremely well appointed and features a shower contained in its own dedicated room, more resembling a steam room at a smart spa in appearance. Very good mini bar but oddly, no wine included.
The pool is simply magnificent! Large, in two generous segments plus an extension which completely surrounds the restaurant. It has a poolside bar with swim-up seating and here we find A'Aoy Ly (Oily on her name badge, pronounced Ili) who is terrific with her efficiency, smile and sense of humour.
The restaurant has a fine menu and most times I was waited on by Mook who was really good.
Reception was efficiently & helpfully staffed with Kat proving to be a winner.
A word about housekeeping. This is a difficult property for these hard working people and most days another lady named Mook serviced my room. Always with a big smile.
One thing you should consider. The resort is situated on a hill and several rooms are located a decent way down the slope. Paths are well designed but there are also steps to negotiate and if you have mobility issues, make sure you request a room as near to the top as possible.
The patio outside the rooms has a table, two chairs and a hammock.
Price-wise I rated it mid-range but it's at the upper end of mid, starting at 8,000THB per night.
I had seven days at Mangosteen and would certainly like to return. It's so quiet and peaceful, sometimes one is tempted to speak in hushed tones. Try it, you'll like it - promise.

There are so many wonderful things about Mangosteen Resort. Our villa was gorgeous, spacious and very comfortable. All the staff were friendly and helpful and went out of their way you to make you feel special. The pool area is spectacular and it is really easy just to sit and unwind if that is what you choose. The resort is set quite high up in tranquil, lush gardens, so the views of the surrounding areas and beaches was a a real treat especially for amateur photographers as ourselves because you just couldnt take a bad photo..
It is a really easy place to get around from if you enjoy sightseeing and Rawai and Nai Harn beaches are only a few minutes away. We had a number of meals at the resort and particpated in both of their weekly buffet nights which were exceptional in quality and selections. Buffet breakfast was also wonderful with lots of different foods to choose from.
One of the reasons I really wanted to stay here was because of the Ayurveda Spa and I was so delighted with all the services we had, that a couple of weeks down the track and we are still telling our family and friends about how good they were. It is a little more expensive than your dime a dozen massage places along all the streets but there is just no comparison.
I was fortunate enough to celebrate my birthday while there and the staff brought me to tears with their surprise gift left on my bed and lovely birthday cake that was brought out after having dinner with everyone singing. It was such a lovely gesture and a birthday I will always remember.
We were also fortunate enough to spend a bit of time with Ian and David and now consider them friends and so look forward to returning to this fabulous resort very soon to relax, unwind and also explore more of wonderful Phuket and surrounds.

The pre booking process was really easy. We were in communication with the Mangosteen Resort some six months before we arrived as we had booked our accommodation using a promotional offer. The resort kept in constant communication with us with regards to our forthcoming stay. The hotel staff responded quickly to our inquiries and requests via email so we went out on a holiday with complete peace of mind that everything had been taken care of before we arrived.
They were also quick to make us aware of the promotions that they had available, and responded to our enquiries about this efficiently.
As soon as we landed & collected our suitcases we were met by our driver at the airport, which we had arranged through the hotel at a very good rate. It was a smooth and friendly transfer, after what had been a very long flight from London. The driver was extremely friendly yet gave us our space to zone out after a long journey. The drive from Phuket Airport to the hotel was about 30 – 40 mins.
Once we arrived at Mangosteen Resort we were met by a smiley and friendly receptionist called Kat who introduced us to a member of staff who talked us through what to expect at the hotel. Later on we were met by another rep called Ian who was fantastic. He’s very knowledgeable about the hotel, the local area and gave us some ideas of places we can go. We felt immediately at ease and able to chat about the best places to visit, areas to venture to and the best options for transportation around the island. We’d probably go back to the hotel just to see him again! Kat was also fantastic, we built up a great relationship with her and she was very willing to answer questions we had about the language and phrases in Thailand. She became our go to Thai language tutor, and took on enquiries with good humor.
Our room was a.b.s.o.l.u.t.e.l.y amazing, very clean & spacious. We were fortunate enough to get an upgrade on our room upgrade. The décor is beautiful and you can tell they paid excellent attention to detail when designing the interior. We also had a Jacuzzi at the back that was just for us but unfortunately we were unable to use it as this was not working. We notified the staff at the front desk and within 5 mins had sent someone round to take a look at it. At this point time to went out to enjoy the day, on our return from the beach we were informed straight away that the Jacuzzi still wasn’t fix but the workman was out looking for the part. A little while later we were informed that unfortunately the part had to be shipped from Bangkok so the Jacuzzi wouldn’t be fixed in time for us to enjoy for our short stay. However they did offer us another room which we were allowed to take a look at before we made a decision. However by this point we had already fallen in love with our current room so we declined the switch. Instead they offered us unlimited use of the Jacuzzi in the spa for the rest of our stay which we thought was a lovely jester.
We ate at the hotel restaurant every morning as we pre booked breakfast. Fresh fruit was available every morning & the choice of breakfast available is very good also. The staff at the restaurant are all very friendly and efficient, and the food was delicious.
The grounds at Mangosteen are very beautiful & very well kept. The swimming pool is well designed & spacious with areas to chill and swim. If you’re looking for evening/night entertainment at Mangosteen then you won’t find it here nor do they have a games room. However if you’re looking for somewhere wherewith complete tranquility, beautiful scenery, good food, lovely, efficient & knowledgeable staff then look no further than The Mangosteen. So all in all the I would give the hotel an 9.5/10 the only reason why it isn’t a 10/10 is because they don’t have a games room or any night entertainment, but to be fair we didn’t stay here for that reason.
During our stay we had a meeting with one of the reps (Ian) great guy, he explained to us about becoming a member of their members club & the benefits you get if you’re a person or a couple that like to travel quite a bit. Me & my partner both thought that it was a brilliant offer & we really wanted to be a part of it. However we both have other financial commitments and were in the process of buying our first property so couldn’t take Ian up on this amazing offer which we were gutted about.
-Travelling around the Island and Local area:
My best advice is to rent a moped from the hotel and go exploring. Definitely visit the weekend night market which is probably around 20mins from the hotel. Feeling hungry and want to experience a restaurant outside the hotel then a restaurant called Kook Restaurant is where you want to go, the food is delicious and the service is brilliant. The restaurant is around 5 mins walk away. Once you come out of the main hotel gate, turn left walk to the end of that pathway and it will be directly in front of you. There are a few massage places that were really good. Our favorite is Solari Massage, which is not too far from the Kook restaurant. If you’re looking for a night out then Patong is where you want to head to, get a taxi service from the hotel & once you’re ready to leave Patong you can get a tuk tuk back to the hotel. There are many to choose from so you can negotiate a price that’s best for you.
All in all a FANTASTIC holiday at a BRILLIANT hotel. It’s definitely a place that we would come back to year after year. As a couple both in our early 30’s, we could see ourselves growing old with the Mangosteen.
