New York Yoga and Meditation Retreat

Join Nathalie Mukusheva in this journey of yoga and meditation at Menla Mountain Lodge located in the stunning Catskills mountains in upstate New York, renowned for its unspoiled beauty, variety of wildlife, abundant of rushing streams and rivers, and ancient forested mountains. This retreat is designed to give you an opportunity to practice yoga in an environment immersed in nature. Each individual will have the opportunity to practice at their own level, making the week suitable for students of different abilities and those who may have practiced other yoga disciplines.

Snowlion house

Snowlion is a beautiful two-story house with an elegant 360 square foot living and dining room with many large windows and a cathedral ceiling. Relax on the large upstairs sundeck and enjoy one of the best night sky views at Menla. This house can sleep 10 people comfortably and was the Dalai Lama’s private house when he visited in 2006.

Eva’s House

Set next to the Conference Center below a grove of trees is historic Eva’s House, a charming one-story house which can sleep 6-7 people. Adjacent to the living room is a sleeping alcove with a pull-out couch and a curtain for privacy.

Delos Inn

Delos is an inviting three-story bell tower inn overlooking the pond and surrounding mountains. It is the main building on the campus where the reception area is located, as well as a gift shop, business center, and two dining rooms, one with a fireplace and Tibetan art exhibits. All rooms has private bathroom with shower.

Nathalie Mukusheva Yoga & Meditation Retreat Program

There will be a maximum of 16 people on the retreat giving you a boutique experience with the opportunity for personal attention to work on various aspects of the practice. The two daily yoga classes will be held in the sanctuary; with its unique septagonal architecture and enormous bay windows facing the southern mountain ridge this beautiful space was designed for contemplation and simplicity.

The classes will incorporate all the tools of yoga – pranayama, meditation, relaxation and asana giving you the chance to connect with your true nature, beyond the body and beyond the mind. You will be guided though a flowing, dynamic practice which takes in standing sequences designed to strengthen the legs and stabilize the pelvis leading to greater freedom in the twists and back-bending which in turn frees up the hips and shoulder girdle for greater ease in hip openers and forward folds eventually leading to inversions.

The classes will be rooted in classical Hatha Raja yoga as passed in authentic tradition by Sri Dharma Mittra. Working from the ground up by establishing a strong foundation through the application of Pada and Hasta Bandha encourages more subtle body awareness and attention to alignment. By using the breath, your most intimate and available teacher, to ground or centre down you can find greater elongation of the spine as you work with deep twists and hip openers. This frees up the shoulder girdle which leads to greater stability as you work towards inversions.


Menla Mountain Lodge is 1500 feet above sea level and set on a 325-acre private nature reserve. At 3720 feet above sea level, the peak of Panther Mountain is one of the tallest mountains in the Catskills. Menla is located in a region of the Catskills renowned for its unspoiled beauty, variety of wildlife, abundance of rushing streams and rivers, and ancient forested mountains.

Menla’s head chef specializes in a wide variety of wholesome, protein-balanced vegetarian and international cuisine served in two dining rooms and an outdoor veranda with views of the surrounding mountains. While the majority of the meals are vegetarian, fish or meat dishes may be added for an additional fee if you wish to take up this option. A complimentary desert will be served every second night at dinner starting on the second night. If you have any special dietary restrictions (vegan) or food allergies (wheat / gluten intolerant) please email Nathalie Mukusheva Yoga and Floor-Barre Teacher at the time of your booking so she can make sure you are catered for.

How to get there

Driving directions from New York city

Cross George Washington Bridge (upper level); take an immediate right onto the Palisades Parkway; continue to exit 9 West (NYS Thruway Albany 87).

Drive for about 1 hour to exit 19 (Kingston exit); after toll booth stay to the right and take first right at traffic circle onto route 28 west toward Pine hill. Continue about 22 miles to Phoenicia. Continue approximately 1/2 mile beyond the Phoenicia sign on right and make first left onto Woodland valley road.

After you cross a small bridge, you will come to a T. Make a right, continuing on Woodland valley road for about 1/2 mile.

Immediately after the “dangerous intersection” sign on the right, turn right onto Pantherkill road. Continue approximately 2 miles to the end of road where you will enter the gates of Menla mountain.

Through the gates, bear slight right uphill to the main parking area in front of a large three-story beige building with a blue roof, fire escape, and trim (Delos inn). Park in the parking lot and enter Delos through the middle of three doors to find the front desk.

Driving directions from NYS Thruway 1-87 South

  • Take exit 19 and follow directions above.

Arrival by airplane

The closest airports are Albany International Airport in Albany, New York and Stewart Airport in Newburgh, New York. Via public transportation, you can connect to the Adirondack trail ways bus, which will bring you to nearby Phoenicia.

You may also fly into any of the major New York City airports and take the Adirondack trail ways bus from New York city, departing from Port Authority. All New York city airports connect to Port Authority bus terminal via public transportation.

Arrival by bus

Call Adirondack trail ways or visit their fee chart, for information and departure times to and from Port Authority bus terminal in New York city to Phoenicia. Reservations not required. The trip takes about 3 hours from New York city and 2 hours from Albany.

Arrival by shuttle from Phoenicia

With advanced notice, Menla lodge provides a 5 USD shuttle to and from Phoenicia up until 8 pm for people traveling by bus. Please email Nathalie Mukusheva Yoga and Floor-Barre Teacher for further information.
