Experience a “happy, joyous and free” retreat in beautiful Nosara, Costa, Rica. Janel and Horace are your guides. We offer an authentic group experience designed to enrich your relationship with your “Higher Power” but with plenty of time to explore the many activities in our wonderful community.
During this retreat, you will stay at Nexus Institute for Yoga & Wellness. Nexus Institute's private residence is located a few steps from the Pacific Ocean in beautiful Nosara, Costa Rica. The property features an expansive canopy-level vaulted ceiling yoga studio, two kitchens, and lap pool.
Accommodations range from private to shared rooms with air conditioning, safes, and linen service. You will be within easy walking distance to the beach, tidal pools, shops, markets, and restaurants. Pricing is per person. Please contact them for shared accommodation options and group rates.
Every morning you will have the option to rise early to explore the many activities available here in Nosara. Typically they go for a short walk to the beach to either surf, enjoy the tide pools or go for a nice morning walk. Surf lessons are available from any of the several local surf schools if you want to improve your surfing or to learn to surf for the first time.
Playa Guiones is an excellent beach to learn to surf. At 9:30 am there is a 75 minute yoga practice relating yoga to 12-Step Recovery with focus on using yoga, mediation and breathing exercises to deepen your relationship with your Higher Power. There is free time from 10:45 to Noon to eat, explore or rest and relax.
There is a 12-Step Meeting everyday at Noon. Monday, Wednesday and Friday they will attend the local Sober Surfers 12_Step meeting a short walk from our retreat. Tuesday and Thursday they will have their own 12-Step Meeting among the retreat participants.
The focus of these meetings will be strengthening our relationships with each of our own personal Higher Power. One to four PM is free time to do what ever your heart desires. They will have a group meditation everyday from 4:00 to 4:30 PM.
Janel and Horace will lead you through the daily yoga, meditation and 12-Step Meetings. You are free to choose from any of the myriad of additional activities.
They will assist you in arranging those activities. You are on your own for all meals. The facility has two shared kitchens. There are many wonderful local restaurants within walking distance.
Daily Yoga: 9:30 - 10:45 AM
Daily 12 Step Meetings: Noon to 1 PM
Daily Meditation: 4:00 to 4:30 PM
Full tour of local markets, restaurants, and attractions are included in price.
Janel Lynn Schullo
Janel Schullo is the co-founder and co-director of the Nexus Institute for Yoga & Wellness. Janel has worked as a 200-hour and 500-hour yoga teacher trainer since 2006. With over 5,000-hour teaching experience, she makes yoga accessible to all ages and ability levels. Janel holds an M.Ed. in Interdisciplinary Education specializing in Yoga Studies. She is a 500-hour Kripalu yoga teacher, a 1000-hour Nosara Yoga Affiliated Program Director, and a yoga guide. Janel has been a member of the Yoga Alliance since 2004.
Horace Usry is co-founder and co-director of the Nexus Institute for Yoga & Wellness. Horace had a previous career in investment banking. However, his love for yoga and personal development trumped his desire to finance and operate additional businesses. He is a certified Kripalu yoga teacher, Nosara yoga educator, and yoga guide. Horace's teaching is influenced by his Shamanic studies in Peru. With gentle humor and a deep understanding of humanity, Horace has assisted hundreds of students in achieving teacher certification at both the 200-hour and 500-hour levels.
The retreat will take place in Nosara, Costa Rica. Nexus Institute for Yoga & Wellness is a few steps from Playa Guiones. Nosara is located in the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica. It is a small and beautiful beach town surrounded by jungle and wildlife with a peaceful international community and many of the comforts of home. It is named by National Geographic as one of the top surf towns in the world.
They intentionally do not include meal services. Rather, they will assist you in attuning to your bodies own needs as a mindfulness practice. Orientation includes a full tour of local markets, farmers gardens, and organic grocery options. Explore local restaurants or build your own tropical meals in two well-equipped kitchens. Only you know what you most need on any given day.
Please book your flight to arrive at Liberia International Airport (LIR). It is a two-hour drive to Playa Guoines and a four to five hour drive from the capital city of San Jose. The favorite airport shuttle is Gypsy Cab Nosara. They will be holding a sign with your name on it as you disembark and will deliver you directly to your doorstep. You may also fly from San Jose International Airport (SJC) to Nosara on Nature Air or Sansa. Nexus Institute will be glad to arrange airport transfers or help with your travel arrangements.
