This journey will open you up to all the beautiful tools you have within to connect to your "Higher Self". We will encourage collaboration with your fellow retreat guests and there will be many opportunities to share, during the ceremony and at your final Kirtan at the end of the course.

What to expect

The intention and desire for the "Mystical Music Retreat" are to gather in the community and find a connection to your "Higher Self" and fellow participants. This may unfold in many ways, through music, yoga, meditation, plant medicine, ceremonies, inner realizations, or simply a reflective conversation around the bonfire.

We have all experienced some degree of isolation and separation in the current state of the world. This is not natural nor healthy to you as humans as touch, play, and interactions are crucial for your wellbeing. Your hosts have been extremely fortunate during this global crisis, by creatively expanding in the community. With their full hearts, they feel called upon to share this abundance with you, to serve, and to guide you.

During the weeks we trust that you will arrive at a space where you feel the richness of your inner being and feel inspired to bring this vibration back to your local community. Leave feeling confident as an artist, healer, and space holder. We invite you to open your hearts, letting go of the mind, and immerse yourself fully into this experience together with them.

What you will take away

  • An extensive book containing songs and tools for further development
  • Your own high-quality medicine drum that you will make during the first week
  • A yoga asana practice
  • A welcome bag with several instruments and surprises
  • Breathwork and meditation techniques
  • Confidence to hold space and create your own ceremonies
  • A nourished body, mind, and spirit
  • A deeper understanding of ancient traditions and cultures

Sharing in a ceremony

We will offer several ceremonies throughout the retreat, including Ayahuasca, Kirtan, Cacao, and Temazcal, all facilitated by highly experienced space holders. These rituals can be powerful and life-changing moments. Throughout each of these ceremonies, you will have the opportunity to not only participate and receive but also to actively share. By sharing, you can challenge and change negative mind patterns, show courage, be vulnerable, and access personal freedom.

Ceremonies are as old as recorded human history. They remind us that we are a part of something greater, connects us to the divine, and our inner landscape, offering an opportunity for manifestation and transformation. Gathering in a ceremony and rituals also adds depth and dimension to our lives and is vital to thrive in community.

  • Ayahuasca

Ayahuasca is a brew made from the Banisteriopsis caapi vine and the Psychotria vridis leaf which together produce a long-lasting DMT journey. It is a powerful medicine that can help expand your consciousness, inspire personal growth, and generate deep healing. This ceremony is an opportunity of great power to cut through the illusions of the mind and society and to reconnect with nature.

The medicine might expose a gap between who you really are and the persona you put on for others. With this realization comes a great possibility for connecting to your authentic self and letting go of anxiety and thoughts that are not serving you. Participating in a ceremony with sacred medicine requires a lot of respect for the plants, the participants, and the ceremony itself.

To attend, you must have a good, clear, and deep intention of what you want to work on since it is a potent opportunity to exert profound and radical changes in your life. This is not a therapy for just anyone, nor is it a recreational experience. If you are reading this, you have probably felt a calling and from that space, will make the decision that is right for you.

During the retreat, you will have one Ayahuasca ceremony together with a beautiful sound healing journey facilitated by Pamela Dhirani, Ivan Rodriguez, and several musicians. Together, they have over 30 years of experience serving sacred medicine. Your hosts have chosen this team carefully after participating in several ceremonies and rituals with different shamans all over the world. They guarantee you a safe and authentic experience.

Ayahuasca is a truly powerful and special experience that offers an opportunity to gain a deep connection with yourself, nature, the community, and music. Your emotional barriers might be shattered and you can connect to a higher force that will diminish the sensation of separation. In the final part of the ceremony, the space will be open for sharing and they will invite you to dive into this opportunity for huge inner growth.

  • Cacao ceremony

Cacao has been used in ancient ceremonies by The Mayans for thousands of years. It has an active ingredient in it called theobromine which can be translated to "Food of the Gods".

Cacao ceremonies are a type of shamanic healing, however, Cacao does not cause any hallucinogenic or “out of body” effects, unlike some of the other plant medicines. Cacao ceremonies are rooted in helping to rebalance the energies within you and restore good health. They’re also a celebration of life and love, as well as a beautiful way to connect deeper with music.

Through opening the heart, cacao enables you to hear your true self, work through blockages and past traumas, dissolve any pent-up negative energy, and help align with who you truly are. Cacao is packed with vitamins and minerals that are great for cardiovascular health. It is also renowned for releasing dopamine and endorphins in the body, which soothe symptoms of PMS as well as depression, by boosting your mood.

  • Temazcal

Temazcal is a medicine for the soul. It is a type of sweat lodge that originated from pre-Hispanic indigenous people in Mesoamerica. In Nahuatl, the word "temāzcalli" means “house of hot stones”. The ceremony is a purification ritual. Through vaporization and heat, the body absorbs the medicinal benefits of different herbs and works both on the inside and outside. Through sweating, you expel toxins and renew the mind and body through the spirit.

The Maya, in modern-day Mexico, used the Temazcal as a place for both spiritual connection and physical healing. They would enter the Temazcal for days at a time in search of the answers within themselves and guidance from their ancestors, exiting the ritual as a newly profound being.

In general, the Temazcal was viewed by the Mayans as the womb of Mother Earth and when exiting a bath, you are symbolically reborn. The structure itself is typically constructed from volcanic rock, cement, and clay and has a circular dome. Volcanic stones are heated and placed in a pit inside. The ritual is led by the experienced shaman, Pamela. Through songs and prayers, you will journey through the four elements targeted at connecting to the divine; cleansing and harmonizing the spirit.

  • Kirtan

In the Yoga Sutras, one of the ancient, foundational yogic texts, Patanjali says the eight-limbed path consists of Hatha, Karma, Bhakti, Tantra, Jnana, Guru, Mantra, and Raja yogas. Kirtan is a form of Bhakti, the yoga of devotion, Jnana, the yoga of wisdom, and Mantra, the yoga of sound.

Mantras are words, phrases, and syllables that are repeated until they become integrated into the chanter’s consciousness, allowing the practitioner to access inner peace, calm, connection, and non-thinking. The goal is to dissolve the boundaries of the material world and experience a sense of boundlessness and timelessness through joyful and ecstatic chanting.

This act of devotion originated some 2,500 years ago in India as a way for yogis to commune with God by chanting the names of the divine, specifically Hindu gods and goddesses, such as Ram, Kali, Rama, Shiva, Durga, Krishna, and Lakshmi. Kirtans were originally written in Sanskrit, the ancient Indian language.

The Sanskrit alphabet has a strong energetic and vibrational component, it is said that the words, when chanted, create a powerful vibration in the body, affecting a person’s mind and spirit. In other words, no knowledge of Sanskrit is needed to receive and experience the yogic benefits of kirtan.

You are so fortunate to be living in a globalized world with information and access to a variety of spiritual practices and devotional methods allowing you to draw inspiration from different cultures and traditions. The kirtan ceremonies consist of traditional Mantra, Spanish, and indigenous medicine songs, and English devotional songs.

  • Sound bath

A sound bath is a deeply-immersive, full-body listening experience that intentionally uses sound to invite gentle yet powerful therapeutic and restorative processes to nurture your body and mind. The journey begins by lying down or sitting in a comfortable position, often with a blanket and an eye mask. After a few minutes of guided focus on the breath, the remainder of the experience is filled with different sounds and frequencies being introduced in succession.

The sounds are created by a variety of overtone-emitting instruments including tuning forks, gongs, shruti box, Himalayan and crystal singing bowls, chimes, and voice. When you sink into a sound bath and guide your awareness to a space of deep listening, you allow your brain waves to slow down, shifting from an active state to a more relaxed state, or even a dreamlike state. Everything is vibration and through this experience, you allow the body to heal itself using the frequencies of the sound.

The sounds introduced during a sound bath are an invitation to a deeper state of consciousness, an opportunity to unplug from external stimuli, and to gain perspective on what’s happening within you. The goal of the experience is to invite deep rest and relaxation and to explore self-inquiry and self-discovery.

Practicing yoga has tremendous benefits to your physical and mental health. It is known to ease stress and promote relaxation. Several studies show yoga’s ability to decrease cortisol levels, the primary stress hormone. It can help you cope with anxiety and depressive thoughts. On a physical level, yoga may reduce inflammation in the body, improve heart health and chronic pain. Yoga practitioners are reporting an overall heightened life quality and increased awareness of body, mind. and spirit.

Your team on this retreat is very passionate about the benefits of having a daily yoga practice and is eager to share their knowledge with you. Each morning begins with a 2-hour meditation, pranayama, and asana practice. You will be guided through the sequence by the experienced yoga teacher, Xochil.

Your hosts, Renee and Josh will give you adjustments during the physical practice, making sure you are performing the postures right, keep the correct alignment, and go deep into the practice. Whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced yogi, you will benefit a lot from the classes. They will be repeating a similar Vinyasa practice followed by meditation and breathwork. The intention is to give you rituals and flows which you can take away and practice in your normal daily life.

How do you prepare for the ceremonies?

Following the dietary advice and food plan in preparation for your retreat helps to lay the groundwork for the medicine experience. By changing your habits, you show commitment to your healing, prepare your body, and demonstrate respect for the process. It also detoxifies your body allowing it to receive the medicine more gently. In general, they encourage you to eat whole foods preferably from an organic source with moderate to low levels of salt, sugar, and fat.

  • Avoid the use of alcohol, recreational drugs, and caffeine.
  • Refrain from sexual activity and any other habits that you may use as a distraction.
  • Quit unnecessary medications and completely avoid the use of any antidepressants.
  • Consult your medical doctor and the team if you are unsure of how to prepare and eliminate medications.

The purpose of the diet and preparations is to create an environment for your body and mind that gives the medicine a less obstructive path to illuminate and work with the areas that need healing. Setting an intention is fundamental to prepare for your experience. In general, it is good to ask yourself what you want out of the medicine but to let go of any expectations.

It is important to surrender to the process and trust that whatever is meant to happen is always perfectly aligned with your healing process and higher manifestations. Approach it with a humble heart, clear intention, and open mind and you will receive the right teachings.

You will be in a very safe environment and will be taken care of by the experienced team. Prior to the night of drinking Ayahuasca, you will have had plenty of opportunities to connect with the space, the participants, the shamans, and the music. They want you to feel safe and comfortable, and if you, at any point, decide against participating in the plant medicine ceremony, they will refund the money for that activity.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

The retreat center is located between Puerto Morelos and Playa Del Carmen on Ruta De Los Cenotes, at KM 32.7. The closest airport is Cancun International Airport. It is a very well-connected airport and usually has an easy welcoming process for travelers from most countries with a six-month visa on arrival.

From the airport, you will have to take a taxi to the location. It is a 45-minute, very comfortable, and safe ride. Tell the taxi driver you want to go to “KM 32 on Ruta De Los Cenotes” near “Cenote Popol Vuh”. On the main road, look for a big gate that says “Madre Tierra” on your right side. Enter through this gate and it will be the second brown gate in about 200 meters on your left-hand side.

The Google Maps pin is very precise, but keep your eyes peeled as the gate comes up fast and the cars tend to drive fast. Note that there is very limited phone service in the area, so please inform One Breath Yoga Ashram well in advance of any unforeseen delays.

Check-in is between 12 to 2 p.m. on the 23rd and the opening cacao ceremony starts at 3 p.m. with a following dinner and evening activity.

Check-out is 12 p.m. on the 30th after breakfast.

Please send an inquiry if you wish to arrive before the course starts or stay longer and we will arrange your accommodation for a fee of 90 USD per night, including meals.

Airport: Cancún International Airport Airport transfer available: Cancún International Airport (US$80 per person) Additional charges may apply. You can request this in the next step.
