    Yoga Alliance RYT 200 (Yoga)

    Lisa's first step on a yoga mat was in 2007 after several injuries as a passionate hockey player. The practice quickly became a part of her daily life as she began to feel the ability to transform, nurture, and heal body, mind, and soul. Lisa completed her Yoga Alliance RYT teacher training in India at the beginning of 2014. The schooling focused on the traditional alignment principles of Ashtanga yoga as well as the creativity of Vinyasa flow. Her asana teachings come from a heart-centered and playful perspective and reflect a fusion of breath, movement, and stillness.

Pharping has two main caves that are considered especially powerful because they are also associated with Guru Rinpoche, the teacher that established Buddhism in Tibet. The area is sacred to Hindus because of the Dakshinkali Temple associated with Shiva. The whole area embodies the interesting mix of Hinduism and Buddhism in Kathmandu.

Below are the examples of the menu during your stay:

Day 1

  • Arrival: Tea and fruit
  • Lunch: Green salad, soup, buttered rice, bread rolls, grilled vegetables, yellow Thai curry, and apple pie
  • Afternoon: Tea, coffee, and cookies
  • Dinner: Salad with Italian dressing, hot mushroom bean soup, pasta in tomato sauce, and glass of wine or other drinks

Day 2

  • Morning: Coffee, tea, and cookies
  • Breakfast: Hot lemon ginger teas or coffee, yogurt and granola, cornflakes and hot milk, two eggs / omelet, cheese slices, pancakes, and fresh fruit
  • Lunch: Salad, cream of broccoli soup, black bean burger or grilled vegetable burger, fresh juice, and key lime pie
  • Snacks: Tea, coffee, fresh fruit, and light sandwiches
  • 1 night accommodation on twin sharing basis
  • 2 daily yoga class
  • All vegetarian meals, tea, snacks,and water
  • Transportation from Pranamaya studio in Patan to retreat location and back
  • Use of yoga mats and yoga props
  • Airfare
  • Airport transfers from and to the studio in Patan

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flights to arrive at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM). From there, you need to go to Pranamaya Yoga Community's studio in Patan.

    "Just returned from Pranamaya's excellent 3 day retreat set in the foothills of the Kathmandu valley. We practiced yoga twice daily, undertook guided mediation, learnt about Buddhism and went for walks in the surrounding hills. Staff and facilities were excellent and the monastery was a beautiful setting. Would highly recommend!"

    "I've been going to the studio ever since it opened. It is a fantastic resource for the community here. Thanks to all the people who run it. The only thing is that I wonder why all the teachers don't place themselves in the same place as Nikki Z did, i.e. in the middle facing the carpark with their back to the back wall. That way everyone has a better chance of seeing the teacher. Thanks and long may Pranamaya flourish."

    "Overall I had a very good yoga retreat (Mind Matters Most). The yoga was very good. Isa is a fantastic teacher with a lot of positive energy, and good at explaining both the asanas and the theory. The Neydo Monastery is a very nice place - the yoga hall fantastic and hotel had good rooms and super food. The intro to Buddhism by the khenpo was good, giving a feel of it to those how didn't know about buddhism. "

    "I love your Pranamaya yoga. Even though my best friends back home run a popular yoga studio I found the teachings of Lissie, Mandy and Isa very fruitful. The teachers down to earth and great! Explaining important small movements and explaining the movement rather than names of postures I dont understand. Nice! I loved the retreat at Neydo Monastery and the energy, insight and moods of Isabel. She was super nice! Need monastery was perfectly quiet, clean and spacious. I loved having classes, meditation and philosophy classes with Isabel. The teachings was a repetitive which made me find parts of my body that needed focus. I found Isabels teachings very guiding. Im more into Bhuddism myself but found her way very open to find your own source and center in your practice. "

    "I have lived in Kathmandu for 10 months and have been at Pranamaya Studio Patan several days a week the entire time. The studio offers a variety of yoga styles and different teachers, so there's always a style and a teacher that suits you. I find the quality of teaching to be very high and the atmosphere is super friendly. Whether you're a novice yogi as I was or very experienced, you can be challenged and supported by the great teachers. I've been on one retreat to the beautiful Neydo Monastery, which I can definitely recommend if you want to learn a bit more about Buddhism, meditation, and yoga."

    "The three day retreat to Nedyo monastery to practice yoga, meditation and learn about buddhism with Sam and Rupesh was the highlight of my month long trip to Nepal and India. The setting, the food and the discussion with the people that joined us, was truly food for the soul. I am a beginner at yoga, and was concerned about my lack of skills, but did not have to worry about this at all. I was put at ease, gently touched to correct the posture and constantly reminded to listen to how my body and mind felt. I will forever remember breathing in and breathing out to the sounds of the monks chanting. The retreat was incredibly well organized. Thank you Sam and Rupesh!"

    "We were looking for some good yoga after trekking and we found it! We are yoga-spoiled coming from San Francisco, but we loved Pranamaya. We took an Astanga 2-3 class at the Patan studio and it was a fantastic class. We also did a 3-day Hatha retreat with Rupesh and Sam, and it was an incredible experience at the absolutely stunning Neydo Monastery outside Kathmandu. Great teachers, great group, and wonderful setting. "

    "When staying in Kathmandu, its easy say "its too cold to practice" or "im tired after tracking" or "i dont have time need to see all bars" but only regular practice changes you. Pranamaya in Boundha was my favorite evening place for all my one-month stay in Nepal. New big space, with great teachers (come to Ellen! ive never been so inspired to do jumps in vinyasas and learned it right way). Affordable prices (take 1 month unlimited if you stay for long)."

    "If you are interested in doing yoga in Nepal, Pranamaya is definitely the place to go to. They have a wide variation of regular classes in three shalas around KTM. Studios are beautiful, western-style studios with professional touch and excellent teachers. I practice mainly ashtanga myself, and find especially Boudha studios classes (and teachers) excellent. Pranamaya also organizes regularly different workshops in the studios, and the ones I have attended have been very good value for money. Looking forward to participate in one of their monastery retreats soon. Pranamaya is a lively and warm community and they really push the level of yoga in Nepal high. Love it!"

    "I have started yoga with Pranamaya by a 48 hour retreat in a monastery, in Pharping, near Kathmandu, mid-September 2012. It was an outstanding experience, combining yoga sessions, introduction to meditation, talks about Buddhist monastic life and Buddhist paintings, a walk to two beautiful temples, and exchanges with a khenpo, or Buddhist teacher. The only complaint of the participants was that it should have lasted longer! The people from Pranamaya yoga, who organized the week-end, were both highly knowledgeable and very pleasant. Attending Morning Prayer in the monastery at 5.30 am was a remarkable experience. The rooms were new and extremely comfortable, and the vegetarian food, delicious.Since then, I have attended the yoga classes at the Thamel studio on a regular basis. The teachers are extremely professional and provide personal attention to every participant (the groups are small, maximum 12 people, unlike in the West, where classes are much bigger). It is a remarkable experience, and I can already feel beneficial effects on my health and general balance."
