Hui Ho’olana Retreat Center is a unique non-profit retreat center has been in the Cooke family for over 100 years. It is comprised of 65 lush acres dedicated to creating a safe environment for inspiration and growth by nurturing the creative spirit.

Your physical needs will be met with simple and comfortable accommodations in a lodge and cabins. There are also indoor and outdoor showers and tubs, abundant nature, gentle tropical climate, cozy gathering spaces, and a pool to relax in. The retreat center also has an organic garden and a native nursery which supports a reforestation project and also three miles of trails where you may encounter axis deer and also provide you with enough space for active exploration outwardly and inwardly.

Rooms in both lodge and cabins are non-smoking and may be shared by two people (couples will have their own rooms, king-sized beds). Single occupancy is available on request.

During this seven-day retreat, you will experience several activities that will include daily meditations, movement lessons, yoga, journaling, guided listening and speaking, deep relaxations, and guided journeying, using the chakra system as a map. In this retreat, a shift in perspective may occur when life is simplified, supported by a caring environment, and guided by truth and love.

"How can I be myself while in relationships and community?" This is a question which you will live with during this week together. The Hui allows you to deeply dive into the practice of being that is centered within yourselves while contributing your special selves to actively help build community, sangha, and family. You are a social being after all.

In this retreat, you will be supported and will be doing the activities together on all levels. Besides individuals, couples are very much encouraged to attend. Although this is not a relationship retreat per se, by learning how to self-relate, anyone seems to relate to others naturally in a more compassionate way. Additionally, any caregiver who has the feeling of burn-out and in need of a recharge will really benefit from this retreat as well.

While this retreat is a serious and a courageous undertaking, you will spend your time together, have lots of laughter, and share in the richness of each other’s gifts. The time will be balanced between classes and free time, guided silence and socializing, talking, learning, integrating, growing and playing. It should be noted, however, that this will not be a typical Hawaiian vacation.

Elisabeth Lentz
Elisabeth Lentz has a degree in child development and social work. She is a certified yoga instructor and Ayurvedic yoga therapist. She studied with Stephen Gilligan in generative coaching and self-relations and also takes part in his yearly supervision courses. She is also experienced in transformative work through Selene Kumin-Vega. Elisabeth currently enrolled in the Embodied Life School mentorship program with Russell Delman and she also studied the psychology of the chakras and is a certified in chakra therapy through Anodea Judith.


Molokai, a Hawaiian island, is a magical place that sometimes is referred to as the heart chakra of the world. The island of Molokai is often experienced as the heart of Hawaii, both geographically and spiritually. Molokai has been the training ground of the Hawaiian shamans and has been referred to as Mother Molokai because of the strong feminine and embracing energy it holds. The Hui Ho’olana retreat center is nestled in the heart of Moloka'i, a heart that is deeply felt and experienced by those who choose to visit.

The retreat center is located on a hill where you can have a wonderful view of the ocean and island of Lanai. It is recommended to add a couple of days in the beginning or at the end of your trip to explore this small, oft-overlooked, and precious island on your own. It is truly believed that Hui Ho’olana is a perfect location to restore, heal, and reconnect with yourself.

There are also tall trees providing shade, the red earth under your feet, and an expanse of blue ocean in the distance with rainbows and sunsets. Molokai has a strange way of expanding your inner worlds while gently holding you close.

How to get there

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Honolulu International Airport (HNL) or Kahului Airport (OGG).

There are no direct commercial flights from the mainland to Molokai. Major commercial airlines offer flights from the mainland to Honolulu International Airport (HNL) or Kahului Airport (OGG). Typically, major carriers offer the best fares and more flights into and out of Honolulu International Airport (HNL). However, it is always changing.

Inter-island flights from Honolulu International Airport (HNL) or Kahului Airport (OGG) into Molokai are serviced by small inter-island carriers. Some major carriers subcontract with an inter-island carrier and issue tickets from the mainland to Molokai and back as one ticket. It is often preferable to book flights from the mainland to Honolulu International Airport (HNL) or Kahului Airport (OGG) separately from the inter-island flights.

Arrival by taxi

Transportation from the airport to the retreat center is easiest with a taxi, possibly shared with some of the other retreat participants.
