Our program provides a unique and holistic combination of activities designed to heal and harmonize body, mind, and soul. It includes daily yoga classes, active and still meditation, lectures, compassionate sharing, expressive techniques based on conscious movement and music, mindful practice, and life coaching.

Mindfulness practice

Our philosophy is that we believe that mindfulness will help us face our everyday and long term loss, disappointments, and difficulties. We enjoy the life we have, instead of escaping or fantasizing about some other life. By being more aware of our body, thoughts and emotions we will receive signals about whats out of balance. Mindfulness teaches us to respect these signals and welcome them instead of pushing them away.

Over the past decades, researchers and mental health professionals have been discovering that mindfulness practice can alleviate many kinds of psychological suffering. Mindfulness helps us understand what lies at the root of our behavior and thus it has the power to transform negative habits, making our lives rich and meaningful. At Samma Karuna, we are dedicated to practice mindfulness during all our daily activities. We are confident that this is the best medicine that will enable us to build our new life.

Activities description

Yoga practice

Samma Karuna’s yoga is gentle, spiritual and therapeutic. Suitable for both beginners and experienced practitioners, it incorporates the basics of Hatha Yoga with vinyasa flow and mindful Ujjayi pranayama, allowing the whole process of practice to become mindful and healing.

Qi Gong

‘Qi’ meaning energy, ‘Gong’ meaning work. Qi Gong is a practice of connection to our Divine essence both through movement of the body and the stillness of the mind. It has its roots in Chinese medicine and martial arts, dating back some 4,000 years. There is believed to be a field of energy which runs through the body.

When this energy stagnates, we become sick. This practice helps to keep it flowing freely. Qigong is an art which helps one to cultivate their vital life force through rhythmic breathing, slow and sometimes rapid movement, static poses which are held for a period of time, and deep focus.

Bio Development

Bio Development, is a system that integrates music, movement and authentic interactions to provide experiences of intense perception of being alive in the here-and-now. These experiences are doors to access primal emotions and help movement emerge that is the most natural expression of your true self.

Angel’s Walk

It is not happy people who are thankful, it is thankful people who are happy. In this love meditation, we will explore the art of seeing light in each other and within ourselves as a true path for a more thankful and happy life.

Awakening Class

As an awakening school, our main concern is to help our students find an authentic and long-lasting happiness. As a non-dogmatic, non-religious school, our aim is to help you develop your own light and wisdom. Understanding that true wisdom comes from within, through our own personal experiences, rather than second hand wisdom found in books or lectures. Our wisdom events are based on experiential exercises, time for reflection, sharing, music & meditation.

Sudarshan Kriya / Aurora SoHam

Breathing is the first act of life. Within the breath is the unexplored secret of life. Sudarshan Kriya is a powerful yet simple rhythmic breathing technique that incorporates specific natural rhythms of the breath, harmonizing the body, mind and emotions.This technique eliminates stress, fatigue and negative emotions such as anger, frustration and depression. Leaving the mind calm and focused, the body energized and completely relaxed.

Tantra practice

  • In this special event we will explore the power of Tantra as a vehicle of growth and liberation through acceptance and love.

Vipassana Meditation

We gather every day to meditate together. Vipassana as taught by S. N. Goenka is a traditional still meditation which is 2500 years old, and considered to be the meditation used by Gautama Buddha to gain enlightenment. All levels are welcome, just bring a respectful and loving energy to the class. If you haven’t meditated before, we may introduce you to a simple meditation technique to get you started.

  • 08.30 – 10.30: Yoga practice
  • 11.00 – 12.00: Qi Gong
  • 12.00 – 14.30: Break
  • 14.30 – 16.00: Activity of the day (Osho Active Meditations, BioDevelopment, Dance Meditation, etc,)
  • 16.00 – 17.30: Yoga practice
  • 17.45 – 19.00: Awakening Class and special events (Tree Harmony, Atisha's heart meditation, Sudarshan Kriya, Angel walk)


Samma Karuna is located about 4 km north from Tong Sala (commercial center of the island and where the pier is located). School is located in Sri Tanu area and about 100 m from 7-Eleven Sri Thanu.

How to get there

Arrival by airplane

Flights from Bangkok to Koh Samui

The nearest airport is in Koh Samui. Between Bangkok and Koh Samui, there are many daily services run by Bangkok Airways. Flying time about 50 minutes. See for more information about this.

A connecting ferry will have to be taken from Koh Samui to Koh Phangan (see ferry info below).

Flights from Bangkok to Surat Thani

Air Asia flies from Bangkok to Surat Thani daily; flying time is about 50 minutes. The transfer from Surat Thani airport to Donsak ferry port is by coach or taxi and takes about 1 hours. At Donsak, you transfer to the Raja ferry to Koh Phangan which takes 3 hours. Whilst the overall journey is longer than flying directly to Koh Samui, it can be cheaper to fly via Surat Thani, depending on the time of year.

Arrival by bus

There are many bus services from Bangkok to Koh Phangan. Most of these are sleeper buses. They can be booked from travel agencies in Bangkok or by going to the central bus station (Sia Thai). The journey takes about 10 hours to Donsak, the ferry port for boats going to Koh Phangan. From Donsak, the journey takes around 3 hours to Koh Phangan. Usually, the ferry is included in the price of the bus.

Ferries from Samui To Koh Phangan

The Seatran ferry leaves Koh Samui at 08.00 and 13.00.

The Lomprayah ferry leaves Koh Samui at 08.00, 11.15, 12.30, and 17.00.

The Seatran pier is located near the airport, approximately a 10 minute drive.

The Lompraya peir is 50 minutes from the airport. Please take this in consideration when booking the rest of your journey. Ferries arrive in Koh Phangan at Thong Sala Pier.

Ferries from Koh Phangan to Koh Samui

The Seatran ferry leaves Koh Phangan at 11.00 and 16.30.

The Lomprayah ferry leaves Koh Phangan at 07.15, 11.00, 12.00, and 16.20.

From Koh Samui airport, there is a shuttle service going to the ferry ports for Koh Phangan (this is usually available as a free service). Please ask for this service when you purchase the ticket for the ferry in the Seatran/Lompraya ferry counter as you exit Koh Samui airport.

Arrival by taxi

Local taxis are available from the pier. Please inform the taxi to go to Samma Karuna Srithanu. Please print out instructions in Thai to give to the taxi driver, this will avoid any unnecessary delay and frustration. Taxis are approximately 200 - 300 THB per person.

Arrival by train

Trains leave Bangkok several times daily; the journey time is about 12 hours. Sleeping booths are available on some services. Leaving the train at Surat Thani, the transfer by coach or taxi from Surat Thani station to Donsak Peir takes about 1 hours. From Donsak; the ferry journey takes 3 hours to Koh Phangan.

There are 2 companies that run luxury coach services from Bangkok to Chumphon, which takes about 6 hours. At Chumphon, you transfer to a large express boat that stops at Koh Tao before arriving at Koh Phangan. The boat journey from Chumphon to Koh Phangan takes about 2 hours.
