Solterreno accommodations are split between the main house and the two cabins. All rooms are furnished to give a sense of serenity and tranquility and can sleep up to three people (same sex). The cabins are separated from the main house and have their own terraces. Wi-Fi is available at the center and all guests have access to the pool.

Theme

This retreat in the spectacular Spanish mountains will teach you the tools to gain more insight into yourself and be more at ease and content through life's ups and downs. Mindfulness is about waking up to a new way of seeing things, and that’s not easy to do on your own. In this course, unlike when you study from a book or CD, you’ll be guided personally by an experienced teacher. The program is challenging and life-affirming.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

The program you will be learning is the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn and his colleagues at the University of Massachusetts Medical Centre. It is designed to help participants learn new ways of handling difficult physical sensations, feelings, and moods. The program consists of more than 30 hours of classes during the week. Highly participatory, supportive, and structured, this program will provide you with:

  • Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices
  • Gentle stretching and mindful yoga
  • Morning practice sessions
  • Group dialogue and mindful communication
  • Exercises to enhance awareness in everyday life
  • Individually tailored instruction
  • A workbook with daily assignments and home practice materials

A set of guided meditations

A set of guided meditations will be sent to the participants after the retreat so that they can practice at home once a day, six days a week, to fully embed the learning and new patterns of behavior. Participants will receive a certificate of participation and attendance. For those seeking to become mindfulness teachers in the future, this certificate will support your application.

Yoga

The practice that will be suitable for all and is Mindful yoga and Yin yoga, aiming to empower individuals towards health and well-being. It will be focusing on optimizing health and well-being at every level of the body and mind. It blends the ancient wisdom of Hatha yoga with mindfulness and modern mind-body techniques.

Included excursions

Solterreno will be offering several walks into the spectacular mountains with views of the Costa Blanca coastline. All walks are optional and are led by an experienced trainer. Two spectacular walks are available, one down into Hells Gorge and the other up onto the Green Horse Mountain, both suitable for all.

Solterreno Mindfulness Retreat Center lies in the peaceful countryside where you can live close to nature. With views of the mountains, valley, and the sea. The space is ideal for meditation, relaxation, and rest. There are some fascinating walks like the "Barranc del Infern" (Hells Gorge), a closed circuit route of some 14 kilometers which takes in 5,946 steps carved into the sides of the valley. The surrounding mountains are ideal for hiking.

The price of this retreat includes three daily vegetarian meals. Solterreno serves delicious, home-cooked, vegetarian food all created with high-quality ingredients when possible. You can expect a well-balanced, energetic, Mediterranean style vegetarian menu. Non-dairy and gluten-free options are available. A typical menu could include:

Breakfast

Tea, infusions, coffee, milk, porridge, cereal, toast, butter and jam, yogurt, and fruit.

Lunch

Vegetarian paella, pate or other side dish, salad, apple and pear compote with raisins, fruit tea, infusions, and coffee.

Dinner

Cream of courgette soup, homemade pizza or quiche, fruit or cheese, tea, infusions, and coffee.

There will be a short morning and afternoon break where tea, infusions, coffee, and biscuits will be available. There will be some fruit, nuts, and biscuits in the dining hall. If you'd like any specific snack food, you should bring it with you. There is limited storage space for dry goods and refrigerated items, so please be sensitive to others who need to use this space because of dietary restrictions. Tea and herb teas are available all day, coffee will be served with breakfast.

Since the retreat center cannot accommodate individual food preferences, it is asked that you eat the meals that are served. However, for those who have medical dietary restrictions and need to supplement the meals, please bring your own supplies. Solterreno Retreat do their best to provide alternatives that suit the needs of those with restricted diets due to medical conditions. If you have medical dietary restrictions, please let the cooks know when you check in at the retreat.

Recommended Airports

Driving directions from Alicante

  • Follow the signs to Valencia, don't go into Alicante.
  • Keep on the coast motorway, the AP-7 to Valencia.
  • Beware that there is a split in the motorway, keep driving on the AP-7 "Valencia por la Costa". It is a toll road, so expect to pay about 10 EUR, any credit card will do.
  • Keep following the road for just over an hour and turn off at junction 62 with signs to Denia and Javea.
  • After 200 meters turn off at the sign to Ondara. Don't go into Ondara, but go onto the by-pass.
  • Turn off at the sign for Orba. Pass through Benidoleig, go around Orba, and on up to Fontilles and the Vall de Laguar. Your final destination is Benimaurell.
  • As you come into the village, turn right and go for about 50 meters until the road forks in two, with the bar L'Hedrera on the left.
  • Take the right fork which drops down steeply with a yellow house on the right.
  • Stay on this track for about one kilometer until you see an electric metal post.
  • Turn right and the house is about 200 meters down the road.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Valencia Airport (VLC) or Alicante - Elche Airport (ALC).

Arrival by bus

From Alicante, it is highly recommended that you take advantage of Beniconnect, one of the shuttle services serving Alicante airport. You can book and pay approximately 25 EUR for a direct link from Alicante Airport (ALC) to The Citrus Bar in Orba. Solterreno can pick you up from there at 17:00 on your first day.

From Valencia, you will have to reach the main bus station either by metro or by taxi. From there, you must purchase a ticket to Ondara. The bus ride will take approximately one and a half hours. From Ondara to Benimaurell, you must continue the journey by taxi.

Arrival by taxi

  • From Valencia airport, 2 hours and about 120 EUR.
  • From Alicante airport, 2 hours and about 120 EUR.
  • From Denia, 45 minutes and will cost about 35 EUR.
  • From Ondara, 30 minutes and will cost about 25 EUR.
  • From Orba, 15 minutes and will cost about 20 EUR.
