Pre-application requirements

  • Have attended as a participant an MBSR program
  • Have a well-established personal meditation practice (not necessarily Mindfulness meditation) of 1 year and a minimum 5 times per week
  • A desire to discover how to apply mindfulness in everyday life
  • Plan to or are teaching/integrating MBSR Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction approaches in their work
  • This MBSR teacher training course will introduce you to teaching the practices and curriculum of Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
  • The teaching skills you will learn are essential and common to both MBSR and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)

Attendance

  • You do not need to take both TT1 and TT2 in the same year
  • TT1 counts as ongoing Continued Professional Development (CPD) and as such can be taken as a stand-alone course for those wishing to include the core practices of MBSR Meditation into their professions

Evalutiaon and procedure and grading criteria

The evaluation procedure will be ongoing and the students will receive training on delivering the core meditations in the morning and in the afternoon's students will practice guiding the same core meditations in small groups. During these practicals, the students will be given feedback using the Mindfulness-based Meditation Teaching Assessment Criteria or MBI-TACs.

Required pre-course study

  • MBSR level 1 pre-course study
  • Reading the 2 pre-course books
  • Completing pre-course MBSR meditation practices using the MP3's provided with the completion of a reflective MBSR journal
  • With the provided pre-course study guide, you are asked to undertake both personal and professional preparation as part of your teacher training pathway
  • Solterreno Retreat will send out 8 weekly emails before the start of the course to help you prepare

Technical preparation

  • A computer or laptop with a high-speed internet connection, with a working camera, so you are onscreen for the duration, microphone, and speakers
  • To plug directly into the network with a cord rather than using wireless (Wi-Fi), if possible, to ensure appropriate bandwidth
  • To be familiar with your computer as we cannot provide technical assistance
  • To have a backup or ‘Plan B’ ready should your first choice of computer and network run into some difficulty
  • Zoom - a free video conference application

You will have live sessions every Tuesday and Thursday during your 9-week training over Zoom.

Course information

Solterreno Retreat proposes to complete the MBSR TT1 training two evenings a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays over 9-weeks online, live and interactive, via the Zoom platform. You must have a stable internet connection and create the space you need to engage fully with the program. Solterreno Retreat will send more specific instructions when attendance is confirmed.

In a safe and nurturing environment, we will assist you in cultivating your skills and you will receive supportive kind feedback and assessment using the MBI-TAC from Bodhin and the team to support your development.MBSR Teacher Training level 1: The focus of this foundation course is to deepen your personal practice and learn how to teach the MBSR core practices. Solterreno Retreat will also explore the theories and intentions of the Inquiry process as a core element of MBSR and MBCT and practice inquiry in small groups.

The core practices are:

  • Body scan meditation
  • Sitting meditation: awareness of breath and body
  • Mindful movement, standing, seated, and floor-based
  • Sitting meditation: open awareness meditation
  • Including inquiry workshops and practice
  • Including supportive assessments with the MBI-TAC, the 6 domains

Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction MBSR Teacher Training Level 1 course

This is the first step in learning how to teach mindfulness. The foundation course is an opportunity to engage in a personal and group process designed to facilitate a deepening of your personal mindfulness practice and develop your skills in teaching mindfulness-based approaches. It can be taken as a stand-alone further training, Continued Professional Development (CPD), or Continued Education Units (CEU) for those wishing to add Mindfulness-based approaches to their profession or teaching, or as part of the full qualified Mindfulness MBSR Teacher Training.

Foundation level 1

Teacher training retreat, level 1 is an intensive experiential training course offering space for inspiration, learning and the co-creation of a supportive circle of community that is designed to immerse participants in the principles and practice of mindfulness-based teaching. Solterreno Retreat also includes in-depth workshops on mindful movement and Inquiry which often have to be taken as separate courses.

Evaluation procedure and grading criteria

The evaluation procedure will be ongoing. During the course the students will receive training on delivering the core meditations in the morning and every afternoon students will practice guiding the same core meditations in small groups. During these Teach-backs, the students will receive feedback using the Mindfulness-based Meditation Teaching Assessment Criteria or MBI-TACs.

These criteria were developed by trainers at CMRP Bangor in collaboration with colleagues at the University based mindfulness centers in Exeter and Oxford and also further development by Mindful Academy Solterreno and they are also being adopted by training organizations in Europe and the USA. This course has been set out to exceed the industry good practice guidelines and meditation teacher training pathway requirements.

Curriculum

Solterreno Retreat's curriculum follows the UMASS CFM curriculum and also the UK Good Practice Guidelines for Teaching Mindfulness and Mindfulness Teachers used by institutions such as UMASS, Bangor, Exeter, and Oxford Universities and is based on the standard MBSR week course taught around the world.
