The original farm house, newer main house, and outbuildings are integrated by porches and paths with a pool, pond, and well in the traditional architecture sympathetic to the landscape. For the lessons, they have a custom-made wooden yoga deck among the pine trees.

The main house

The main house just above the pool has a huge porch with panoramic views of the countryside, sea, and sky. There is a large dining table where the meals for the group will be served. On the ground floor, there is a very spacious and comfortable living room and an open kitchen where guests can watch the chefs preparing the vegetarian meals by the breakfast area. On the first floor, you will find large double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and two spacious terraces.

The farmhouse

The original farmhouse, close to the main house, has a big and comfortable living room for music, reading, conversation, television, and games as well as spacious porch with dining table and chill-out bed with beautiful views. There are large double bedrooms with solid walls almost a meter thick, each with their own ensuite bathroom.

The double rooms are very comfortable and spacious, they have separated twin beds with the possibility to put them together in case you want. Ensuite bathrooms have bath tubs or showers.

In the main house, there are two double rooms sharing a very spacious bathroom and a big terrace with panoramic views.

Program

Sunset Mountain is a Hatha Yoga Center. The classes are based on the Sivananda system. There are between four or five hour daily classes during the week (theory, asana, pranayama, and meditation classes). Some of the classes are more physical and vigorous and some are more recuperative and relaxing.

All classes are optional. After all, this is a holiday not a boot camp! It is fine if you decide to sleep or spend more time on the beach in the afternoon. A big part of yoga is listening to your body's needs and a holiday is also about rest and recharging.

All yoga classes are held in English. The yoga program includes four hours of theory divided in three parts during the week:

First theory class (one hour)

During this session you will receive important and inspiring information about the yoga philosophy allowing you to understand in a very simple and deeper way different aspects about the origin, types, and goals of yoga. You will learn about Vedanta philosophy, the three Gunas, the four paths of yoga and the eight limbs of Raja yoga.

Second theory class (one hour)

You will learn about the chakras, the etheric body, and how yoga benefits not only your physical body but also your energetic body. The connections between the chakras and your glandular system and the importance of bringing your practice to a deeper pranic level.

Third theory class (two hours)

You will learn about Ayurveda principles based on a correct diet and healthy lifestyle. During this class you will receive many important tips about food combinations and personal diet according to your nature and your dosha (personal physical and mental constitution).

Asana and pranayama sessions

  • Two morning sessions of three hours each where you will learn the complete traditional Sivananda system which includes sun salutations, two different kinds of pranayamas (breathing techniques), 12 basis asanas (steady poses), and final relaxation. The three- hour session will allow you to receive important and specific information about the correct performance and alignment of the asanas.
  • One additional morning session (one and half hour) of Yin yoga.
  • One additional extra yoga workshop.
  • Two afternoon sessions of three hours each. These classes will be more dynamic and vigorous and there will be taught a large range of different asanas with many variations.
  • One morning session of two-hours of detox yoga (Sukushma Vyayama), which is an ancient component of yoga not known to most of the schools of yoga today in the world. This is one of the few systems of exercises in the world where each and every part of the body including each organ, each joint, and each muscle is taken into consideration.
  • One sound bath session.
  • One afternoon session about three hours which will be a resume about all you have learned during the week.

Each yoga session will finish with 30 minutes of guided meditation. Every time you will learn a different technique, so that you can have a better vision about the form of meditation which could be more suitable to your nature:

Day 1 (Arrival day)

You will be picked up from the airport from one of Sunset Mountain Yoga's co-workers and brought to the retreat. There will not be yoga lessons on the first day. You will be provided with explanations about the week, give you practical information about the island and retreat, and answer your possible questions. There will be fresh fruits, salads, Hummus, bread, water, and herbal teas available during the day.

You can stay in the retreat as long as you need to wait for the time of your airplane. The driver will bring you safely and on time to the airport.

Personal program approach

The purpose of this retreat is to assist you in the understanding of your true nature through the practice of yoga and deep immersion in a yogic lifestyle.

The guests range from total beginners to the experienced practitioner, from the stiff to the super flexible. Yoga is a personal journey and you will be receiving adjustments to suit your current level. This yoga retreat is a great way to experience yoga for the first time or for the more experienced it’s an opportunity to deepen their practice.

All the guests come from many different backgrounds: lawyers, doctors, teachers, mothers, students, business people, retired, in between jobs etc. What is most important is that they are all just really lovely people! Many of the guests travel alone and some guests come with friends or partners.

Lena Tancredi
(Hatha Yoga)
Lena Tancredi is an artist and Sivananda Hatha yoga teacher. Her desire in teaching yoga is to share the art of yoga that has changed her life and brought joy, grace, strength, inner peace, beauty, and a sense of empowerment to all she does. She is a certified Hatha yoga teacher with a diploma recognized internationally and accredited by the Yoga Alliance. She graduated in London and her teacher training was taught by Barbara Gordon (founder of the Sivananda Center in London), Nora Belton, and Swami Saradananda. Later, she also studied yoga and Ayurveda in Haridwar, India.
Deva Alchi
Music has been Deva’s passion for his whole life and he has been a professional musician for nearly 30 years. He plays several instruments, in particular, the saxophone, percussion, piano, guitar, and flutes. He has performed in 57 countries and produced several CDs for meditation in India, Italy, and Spain. He has been playing for nearly 15 years in meditations, courses, workshops, and spirituals festivals around the world. He has also received meditation and therapy training from Italy, India, Mexico, and Spain. He is currently the co-director of “Todopuedesonar” Association in Ibiza, Spain.

Location

This retreat will take place in ibiza, Spain. It is set in 30.000 square meters of pine forest, fruit filled terraces, several lawns, a variety of flower beds, and an olive lined driveway. Amazing breathtaking views including sea, sunsets and distant hills complete a scene between blue skies and red earth.

The seasons change, the fruits and flowers appear and disappear but there is always something and often plenty. Almonds and oranges in profusion, fig and pomegranate trees are all scattered around here among the smells and colors of so many flowers. Olive, carob, and palm trees add to a feeling of deep Mediterranean country.

The kitchen is 100% vegetarian and they will provide you all meals; breakfast, lunch, and dinner, all included in the price. The chefs, Monica Nartaki and Alessandra Tavares (Naná and Ali) are professionals with over 15 years of experience in healthy cooking. They are experts in natural and vegetarian nutrition, and have conducted both deep food studies in vegan, Mediterranean, and Asian cuisine, oriented to prepare delicious and healthy dishes whenever possible using products of local, organic, and ecological agriculture.

All sauces, breads and desserts are homemade. Collectors of spices and recipes adapted to their special and unique style: Eating healthy and delicious using all your senses! They also prepare a special menu for those with allergies or food intolerance.
