Come join Sunnah and Sallie Rose for a wonderful weekend of yoga and meditation at Monkton Wyld Court set in the rolling hills of Dorset and within walking distance of the stunning Jurassic coast. There will be free time to explore this wonderful area. Over the weekend we will combine yoga practices taught by Sunnah and meditation sessions taught by Sallie to open the body and calm the mind. The practices will weave themselves together in a gentle flowing way and you will leave this retreat feeling nourished and centered.
The house accommodates up to 35 visitors in two- to six-bedded rooms. There is a choice between single, double and dormitory style rooms which are all set in the main building; a is a charming Grade II listed rectory built in 1848 as an early Victorian example of neo-Gothic architecture.
The communal areas have wonderful panoramic views of the countryside, and are heated by wood-burning stoves. It is surrounded by terraced lawns, a small wood, an orchard, fields leading down to a stream and an in Victorian walled vegetable garden.
There is a hall with stage and sprung dance floor, a beautiful sitting room with grand piano, a healing room with massage table, and facilities for making music, pottery and other arts and crafts. Our eclectic and well-stocked library is also available by arrangement.
Outside, we have terraced lawns, a small wood, an orchard, fields leading down to a stream and an inspiring Victorian walled vegetable garden. Our water comes from our own wells and is processed through our reed bed filtration system. We also use solar energy.
There are a few room options that you can choose. While there are no en-suite facilities, all rooms are close to toilets, showers and bath. Put your feet up and relax in our Piano Room with wood fire and beautiful bay window view.
If you are a single traveler and wish to stay on your own, this option is perfect for you. Please note that even in single room, there are no en-suite facilities, though all rooms are close to toilets, showers and bath.
Sunnah teaches a combination of Hatha and gentle Vinyasa yoga to release the spine, tone and mobilize the body and help generate a healthier and clearer mind. On this retreat Sunnah will teach a Mindful yoga practice to compliment the meditative work that you will be embarking on. All are welcome including complete beginners and pregnant ladies.
Mindfulness Meditation helps you to deal with lifes stresses in a calm and centered way. By developing a regular practice you will experience increased awareness, feel more present, more connected and able to cope with the inevitable challenges that occur. Meditation involves amongst other things focusing on the breath as the object of concentration. In this way we learn to train the mind, reduce stress and deepen our awareness.
Monkton Wyld Court is located in the hamlet of Monkton Wyld, amidst the rolling hills of Dorset and within walking distance of the stunning Jurassic coast. Our main building is a charming Grade II listed rectory built in 1848 as an early Victorian example of neo-Gothic architecture inspired by Pugin.
The food at Monkton Wyld Court is vegetarian and almost entirely organically grown, and sourced from their own farm and kitchen garden and other local suppliers wherever possible. They can also cater for vegan, wheat and dairy-free diets by arrangement.
Monkton is located roughly four miles from Charmouth, Axminster and Lyme Regis.
The hamlet of Monkton Wyld (and Monkton Wyld Courts road) is signposted from the A35 halfway between Charmouth and Axminster.
You'll find the Court just opposite St Andrews Church.
The 31 bus from the station (Axminster to Lyme Regis) stops at the Hunters Lodge pub in Raymonds Hill, a pleasant thirty minutes' walk away from here. Just be sure to consult the map before setting out.
