The hotel and cabins sit in the center of the Venabygdsfjellet plateau at the southern edge of the Rondane National Park, 78 kilometers north of Lillehammer. This special mountain area offers many fine experiences of nature right across the plateau with its lakes and streams, its waterfalls, and mountaintops.

Built in the Norwegian architectural style with light and airy rooms throughout, the hotel has 56 comfortable en-suite rooms, six of which are suitable for wheelchair users. The superb mountain views from the dining room and the open fire in the sitting room make this a wonderful place to relax.

Who is this for?

This weekend will suit both those new to mindfulness and more experienced practitioners who would like the opportunity to deepen their practice and enjoy time spent sitting with others.

During the weekend you will be walking short distances and sitting on the ground. You will each be carrying a small rucksack with spare clothes, a drink, and food - the things you need to remain comfortable while practicing outdoors.

Venabu Fjellhotell aims to make this weekend accessible to as many people as possible so please contact them if you have any special mobility requirements.

While mindfulness can support good mental health, this weekend is not therapy. It may not be suitable for those who have recently / are receiving treatment for mental health issues or who have recently experienced major life events such as bereavement or loss. Please send an inquiry if you have any questions.

Arrival by airplane

The nearest airport is Oslo Airport, Gardermoen (OSL). Venabu Fjellhotell offers its own direct bus to and from the airport every Saturday, only in the winter season (also in connection with the Christmas holidays). This service must be booked in advance.

Departure from Gardermoen is 2 p.m. Return 9 a.m. the following Saturday, with arrival at Gardermoen at 1 p.m. The transfer time is about three hours.

Arrival by train

Travel by train to get to Ringebu (the closest station to Venabu) is straightforward and rail services in Norway are excellent. At Oslo Gardermoen Airport (lufthavn) the railway station is in the same building as the airport, downstairs. Buying tickets is easy: online, at the ticket machines, or in person. You'll find that the station staff speak excellent English and everything is well signposted.

Booking ahead - once you know your flights and you have decided to travel by train it makes sense to book your rail journey. It is best to book ahead as the trains can become booked up - everyone has a seat, no standing. Booking ahead may give you the option of a reduced price ticket, the minipris ticket, though this is non-refundable. The Vy website is easy to use and has an English version.

Take the train to Ringebu on the Dovre railway line. It's a scenic journey of about two and a half hours from Oslo Gardermoen. Oslo city centre and Lillehammer are on the same rail line.

The hotel staff will pick you up from the railway station in Ringebu if you book this service with Venabu Fjellhotell in advance (at an extra cost). The transfer time to the hotel from the station is about twenty minutes.
