Accommodation

You will be staying at Venabu Fjellhotell, a comfortable family-run hotel on the edge of the Rondane National Park. Venabu sits in the middle of the Venbygdsfjellet plateau surrounded by tranquil, wild nature with mountains, lakes, canyons, and waterfalls.

The hotel has plenty of public indoor and outdoor space including lounges, a library, saunas, and a sunny terrace. The retreat will have the exclusive use of the meditation room. All this means that you have the choice of social or quiet time during your stay.

Rooms are simple and comfortable. All rooms have en suite bathrooms. Single, twin and double rooms are available.

Program

Practising mindfulness outdoors, in nature gives you the opportunity to settle your our mind on physical experience: of the weather - the sun on your skin, a breeze, even rain and on the physical journey through the landscape.

To further help us in our exploration we use a different theme each day from the five elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space. We will weave practices with that element into the walk for the day.

Arrival day

Dinner at 6:30 p.m. You will start to get to know each other over dinner. After dinner, we will have an introductory meeting.

Days 2-5

The itinerary for each day may vary according to the weather and the needs of the group. A typical day is outlined below:

  • 07:00 Mindful movement practice outside
  • 08:00 Breakfast
  • 09:30 Walk in the mountains with guided practices and perhaps some time in silence, packed lunch outside
  • 17:00 Return to the hotel and free time
  • 18:30 Dinner buffet
  • 20:00 Free time

Departure day

  • 08:00 Breakfast
  • 09:00 Closing and goodbyes

The walks are chosen to take us to some of the most beautiful places: local summits, canyons and waterfalls, clear mountain lakes and stunning viewpoints.

Venabu sits on the edge of the Rondane National Park, Norway's first national park, created to protect the wild reindeer that live here. The walks are graded intermediate for experienced walkers.

A typical walk is about 12 kilometers with 300 - 400 meters of ascent. Some days may be a little longer and some a little shorter, expect to be outdoors all day and walking for between four and a half and five hours. You will be walking on mountain paths which may be muddy or rocky. We will use short transfers by minibus to help explore the area.

We will be well looked after at Venabu Fjellhotell, well known for its warm welcome and delicious food. At breakfast and dinner, we serve generous buffets. At breakfast plenty of fruit is available and a daily smoothy is offered. In the evening there are salads, starters and hot dishes and deserts made using many locally sourced ingredients. Dishes are a mixture of Norwegian food and other favorites. A good range of vegetarian dishes is available.

We make up our packed lunch at breakfast and thermos flasks can be filled with hot drinks, all included in the package price.

On Wednesday evening we serve our special Norwegian Buffet.

Teas and coffee are freely available for guests in the hotel lounge.

Arrival by train

The is an excellent and straightforward rail connection from Oslo Gardermoen airport to Ringebu, on the Dovre line, the closest station to Venabu. The journey is scenic and takes approximately three hours.

Book tickets on Vy.no, the price is about 450 NOK and discounted tickets are available if booked in advance. Venabu Fjellhotell will meet you at the station for a twenty-minute transfer to the hotel.

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 25% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid 30 days before arrival.
