You will be accommodated in a comfortable secluded chalet in the middle of Slovak mountain. Due to the availability, double rooms will sleep one to two people. The chalet comes with shared showers and toilets as well as a spacious meditation hall.

Program

All participants are given a detailed introduction to meditation at the beginning of the course. The course is organized around directing attention inwards as much as possible. Participants sleep six hours a day, breakfast is served usually 6:30 a.m., lunch at 11:30 a.m. The rest of the time is dedicated to the practice with short breaks between “rounds”, walking plus sitting meditation.

The course is conducted in silence and off-line. Whatever happens during the day can be discussed with the teacher at daily individual meetings; however, teachers are available 24/7 if needed. The teachers might adjust the regime individually if necessary (for instance, due to medical conditions).

Participants follow traditional eight precepts which support meditation by eliminating distractions and make it easier to share space with others: no killing, stealing, sexual activities, lying, intoxicants, eating after lunch, entertainment such as reading, writing, singing, music, yoga, phone, internet, cosmetics, and luxury.

Vipassana

Vipassana weakens and removes habitual patterns of behavior, thought and perception such as self-criticism, anger, obsessive thinking, worry, anxiety, depression, doubts, feelings of hopelessness and sadness. Vipassana leads to overall stress reduction, a better understanding of oneself, the ability to deal with difficult emotions and thoughts and appropriate responding to life situations. It brings about not only understanding of oneself, but also of others and thus improves interpersonal relationships.

Chata pod Hrbom (Chalet under the Hrb peak, 1,087 meters above sea level) is a secluded accommodation facility with a long tradition of hosting meditation and yoga retreats.

Food

You will be served healthy home-made vegetarian food. Snacks are served in the evening (yogurt, fruit juice, piece of cheese). Water, teas, and coffee are available all day round.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Banska Bystrica city is accessible from Bratislava Airport (BTS), John Paul II International Airport Kraków–Balice (KRK), Leoš Janáček Airport Ostrava (OSR), or Vienna International Airport (VIE). Village of Lubietova is accessible by local buses running from Banska Bystrica. Pick up to the chalet in the village of Lubietova can be arranged. When agreed, it is possible to arrange a pick-up from Banska Bystrica.

Arrival by train/bus

The closest local stops are Lučatín and Ľubietová respectively for local trains and buses. For the first day, vipassana.sk team will be picking a group of meditators in Banská Bystrica at the station. They might arrange the same for the last day as well. vipassana.sk will help you arrange transport and, if needed, pick you up at a suitable place.

Driving directions from Ľubietová

  • If you travel by car, the chalet is reachable from Ľubietová by regular road car (no 4×4 needed) following the blue hiking trail 2624 starting in Ľubietová in the village center.
  • In the very last part through the forest, the blue trail takes some shortcuts and the cycling trail 5551 should be followed instead.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 33% of the total price.
  • The deposit is fully refundable if the booking is cancelled up to 10 days before the arrival date.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid on arrival.
