White House provides cozy, homely accommodation with two lounges, interconnecting dining areas, and six bedrooms. The house is centrally heated with a log-burning stove in one lounge and in the yoga room, providing a warm and comforting atmosphere during the cooler months. Teas, coffee, and other beverages are included in the price and are accessible at all times of the day.

There is plenty of breakout space in the house and gardens providing the opportunity for quiet contemplation and to absorb the natural energy which envelopes the house. Wildlife is in abundance and rabbits, squirrels, owls, pheasants, buzzards, and red kits are regular visitors. There are six bedrooms in all, providing twin beds and super king doubles.

Sample daily schedule

Day 1: Thursday - August 19

  • 15:00 Arrival; gather for an opening ceremony with a tea ritual. Introductions and the full retreat schedule will be shared.
  • 19:30 Dinner
  • 22.00 Quiet time

Day 2: Friday - August 20

  • 07:30 - 09:00 Outside weather permitting, morning circle, introduction to the power of the breath through pranayama practice and sunrise yoga (tea will be available prior to yoga should you wish)
  • 09:15 Breakfast outside or in the conservatory and breakfast room
  • Free time to cleanse, meander around the gardens, read a book, or head to the stream or woods for some nature time.
  • 12:00 Lunch
  • 14:00 Gentle nourishing yoga practice in the garden or the yoga room
  • 15:15 Drinks and nourishing snack
  • Free time to relax and enjoy the house and outdoor space or explore outside the retreat, head into Welshpool market town, or to one of the lovely local sites.
  • 17:00 - 17:45 Introduction to the "Healing Power of Crystals Workshop"
  • 18:00 - 19:00 Nourishing Yin yoga practice to encourage Qi flow throughout the body

Yin is a much slower-paced practice, mainly floor-based, consisting of passively entering poses and holding them for longer periods of time to encourage the release of tension held in deep tissues. Yin allows to reach connective tissues and fascia, normally not connected to through a more rapid practice.

Yin helps increase circulation and flexibility and encourages to relax and restore through the breath. A truly nourishing and beautiful practice that will leave you feeling blissful.

Day 3: Saturday - August 21

  • 07:30 - 09:00 Morning circle, pranayama awakening Vinyasa practice (tea will be available prior to yoga practice should you wish)
  • 09:15 Breakfast outside or in the conservatory and breakfast room
  • 12:00 Lunch
  • 14:00 - 15:00 Hatha yoga practice to evoke balance of the body, mind, and soul
  • 15:15 Drinks and norishing snack
  • 16:30 - 17:30 An opportunity to practice "Coherent Breathing", should you wish to attend.
  • 18:00 - 19:00 Cacao ceremony and Yoga Nidra meditation (deep relaxation) for the relief of stress and anxiety

Yoga Nidra simply requires you to sit with your breath and relax in savasana and follow the guidance of your teacher's voice as you work through the five layers of self and slowly drift into a deep state of nourishment and healing. Yoga Nidra allows you space and time to explore what you need at the moment and allows an opportunity to release any long-held emotions or blockages.

It can detach you from your thoughts, release tension, reduce insomnia and reconnect you to the "Self". The benefits of this practice also help to improve the function of your nervous system, relieving stress and anxiety. Plant the seed of change and acceptance and take the first steps on your path towards healing from within.

The ceremonial grade organic cacao drink is sourced locally from "Forever Cacao" and is packed full of flavonoids, which are known to improve blood flow to the heart and brain. It can be particularly beneficial before a deep relaxation or meditation as it helps to "let go" and surrender to the space.

  • 19:30 Dinner then cozy time with blankets outside, sharing stories, and conversation whilst bathing in the Lunar energy for cleansing and relaxation.

Day 4: Sunday - August 22

  • 07:30 - 09:00 Morning circle, pranayama, and gentle yoga flow for flexibility (tea will be available prior to yoga practice should you wish)
  • 09:15 Breakfast outside or in the conservatory and breakfast room
  • 10:00 Closing circle and meditation
  • 12:00 Lunch
  • Fond farewells

All practices are optional, you are encouraged to listen to your bodies, take what you need and leave what you do not.

Included excursions

Forest bathing, spend careless moments in the hammocks, or take a walk, the main routes are just a wander from your doorstep.

Location

Just 2.5 miles from the market town of Welshpool with its livestock market, leisure center, and canal, White House is nestled amidst the natural beauty of the Welsh hills. Enfolded within its own gardens, woodland, paddock, and stream, nature walks spring from the doorstep providing access to local footpaths and lanes and the national Glyndwr Way.

Gaer Fawr, once the site of an ancient fort, (10 minutes' drive), dates back to the Iron Age, Powis Castle (15 minutes), combines medieval fortifications with the treasures Robert Clive (aka Clive of India) brought back to his family seat from the East in the 18th century, while the ruins of 13th-century Dolforwyn are chiefly worth the climb for the views.

For more views, with walks attached, there are gentle, waterside ambles on the Montgomery Canal Trail starting in Welshpool, bigger hikes up the once-volcanic Breidden Hills half an hour away, and views across Shropshire from Long Mynd and Stiperstones, both around 40 minutes away. It's a similar distance to the longest waterfall in England and Wales, Pistyll Rhaeadr.

The Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway, puffing a mere eight miles from Welshpool to Llanfair Caereinion (15 minutes) but takes in some fabulous views en route. If you want an even more glamorous mode of transport, you can book helicopter tours from Welshpool airport, (10 minute drive away). Please phone ahead to check for advanced booking requirements.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Driving directions from (Broad Street, Welshpool)

  • From the A458 (Broad Street, Welshpool) take the third exit onto the A490 (Llanfyllin).
  • In three miles take a left turn on to the B4392 for approximately 1.5 miles.
  • 200 meters beyond the house on the roadside.
  • White House is marked by a sign "White House Lifespa Yoga Retreats" at the end of the drive.
  • Take the left turn here crossing the cattle grid and follow the lane past the bungalow to the large white house 200 meters further on.

Arrival by train

Arrive by rail to Welshpool Railway station. Collection can be arranged by prior arrangement for 4 GBP each way.
