The historic hotel is located in the Casco Antiguo of Panama City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, next to the Panama Interoceanic Canal Museum and facing the Plaza de Independencia. Located opposite the Cathedral, the hotel is just steps away from the Municipal Palace, and is close to the Presidential Palace, along with other attractions in the area.

The Central Hotel opened its doors for the first time in 1874. It hosted guests such as Theodore Roosevelt and Count Ferdinand de Lesseps among other public figures of the time. The Central Hotel was the first hotel in Panama, serving as a “rendezvous” for all of the passengers who traveled to the American continent, and becoming famous throughout the western hemisphere for offering high-style European and American services at reasonable prices.

Construction work on the building has been completed. This work consisted of totally restructuring the building while maintaining the façade and respecting the original structure. The hotel is unique given its location, modern appearance, history, and institutional connections. The hotel features 135 rooms, a pool, restaurant, bar, and spa.

Hotel Bocas Del Mar

Nestling amidst a stunning tropical paradise and away from any city or busy towns, Hotel Bocas del Mar overlooks the Gulf of Chiriqui and is the perfect base for discovering the region being the gateway to the Gulf of Chiriquí Marine National Park with its many luxuriant green islands, palm-tree-fringed white beaches, and an incredible variety of wildlife.

Located at approximately one hour from David Airport, the hotel provides a perfect oasis for relaxation. The hotel consists of sixteen large bungalow-style guest rooms, architect designed with a beautiful contemporary style, modern features, views of nature and ocean. The rooms all come with AC, satellite TV, a safe, free Wifi, walk in closet, private bathroom with shower and separate bath tub, including toiletries and hair dryer.

Yasmin Yoga + Ayurveda Panama Yoga Retreat Program

A sister-science to yoga, Ayurveda is a healing modality, which is also indigenous to India. It has been practiced as a medical system for more than 5000 years and is still highly effective and widely used. The word Ayurveda means “science of life” or “lore of life” in Sanskrit. The guiding principle of Ayurveda is to promote health through the balance of the five natural elements; earth, water, fire, air, and space (ether).

Due to the unique qualities of these elements, it is believed that their pairing creates three distinct energetic constitutions or “doshas”. Within the human body, the three doshas are known as Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Each has specific mental attributes and handles certain functions, such as digestion, hormonal activity, and communication.

Vata is composed of air and space elements and controls all movements in the body’s circulation, breath, voice, transportation of nutrients to cells, communication between nerves and excretion of waste. Vata is also associated with creativity and adaptability.

Pitta, comprised of fire and water elements, is responsible for digestion, metabolism of nutrients and production of cell energy. Pitta also ignites our passion, courage and intelligence.

Kapha is made up of earth and water elements and handles bones, lubrication, cell membrane structure as well as growth and development from fetus to adult. Emotionally, Kapha is also about compassion, reliability, and memory.

Ayurveda healing

Ayurvedic treatments include custom food plans, daily routines, herbal remedies, poultices, breathing techniques, yoga, and other therapies such as oleation, massage, and chakra balancing.

Born in India more than 5000 years ago, yoga was originally practiced strictly by men for the purpose of spiritual development. Away from the distractions of women and family life, these yogis spent their time in long periods of meditation. They developed yoga asanas (postures) in order to build their stamina and bring balance to the physical and energetic bodies.

This pre-meditation ritual became known as “Hatha yoga” or “sun-moon yoga”, referring to the solar and lunar energies, as well as to other opposing, yet complementary, forces. The word “yoga”, in its rudimentary connotation, stems from the Sanskrit word “yuj”, which means to connect or to unite. Thus by definition, everything people do, be it making a salad or making love, can be a yoga and a union of supreme consciousness.

Sample daily schedule

Day 1 - Arrive to Panama

On arrival to Tocumen International Airport in Panama City, you will be met by an Ancon Expeditions of Panama driver and transferred to your hotel in Casco Viejo, the historical district in Panama City. Tonight, you will meet your host and Yoga teacher Yasmin for a welcome briefing. You may join her for an optional dinner at Ochoymedio and Jazz concert at the Danilo Perez Jazz Club (meal costs and cover not included). Overnight stay at Central Hotel.

Day 2 - Casco Viejo - Panama Canal - Gulf of Chiriqui

Depart the Central Hotel for a walking tour in Casco Antiguo at 10 a.m. In 1673, after the devastating pirate attack, Panama City was moved 7.5 kilometers west, to a small peninsula at the foot of Ancon hill, closer to the islands that were used as the port and near the mouth of a river that eventually became the entrance of the Panama Canal.

The relocated town, known today as Casco Antiguo or the Historic District of Panama, not only had better access to fresh water but could be fortified. Most outstanding are the various churches as well as the Presidential Palace, originally built in the late 17th century and partially reconstructed in the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries, revealing example of the transformations that characterize the Historic District as a whole.

Today, Casco Antiguo is home to a lot of artists, galleries, handcraft markets, restaurants, vibrant nightlife, people, and flavors. Join Yasmin for an exquisite sensory Panamanian chocolate journey that begins with the discovery of the cocoa tree to a lifetime of unforgettable chocolate tasting experience in the historical district. You will have the chance to taste a variety of types, feel aromas, and flavors of cocoa followed by a healthy lunch.

In the afternoon, you will visit the Panama Canal Visitors’ Center at Miraflores Locks where ships can be seen transiting the waterway. The three-floor exhibit halls will provide information about the history, engineering, and current events related to the Panama Canal. Then, you will be dropped off at Panama City’s domestic airport at to catch a 50-minute flight to David, capital of the Chiriqui province, in western Panama.

Chiriqui is the country´s “breadbasket” contains some of the most breathtaking scenery in Central America. From the airport, you will be transferred on a one-hour ride to Boca Chica. Bocas del Mar Hotel is on the mainland and overlooks the Gulf of Chiriqui Marine National Park. The hotel’s dock is perfect to set off from on trips to visit the islands. Travel in style in the hotel’s own very comfortable 26-feet excursion boat or center-console fishing vessel.

The national park, created in 1994, covers 150 square kilometers of glistening ocean and over twenty magnificent islands dripping in luxuriant green forest and blessed with many palm tree-fringed beaches. When looking out from the hotel, you will see Isla Boca Brava opposite to the right (not in the national park) and to the left Isla Linarte, the start of the national park proper. Just around the corner a world of easy and enthralling exploration opens up to you.

The islands are a treasure trove of water and nature, where Spanish galleons and pirates once sailed. There are also many inland options to explore near the hotel. Get settled and enjoy a welcome dinner and orientation with Yasmin.
