The morning class will gently open the body and attune the mind to the breath. The class will slowly move and build into a flowing and dynamic sequence, always incorporating the cultivation of awareness, physical alignment, breath, and the chakras (energy centers).
The afternoon sessions will be a playful and creative exploration of the healing power of sound, drawing from a variety of traditions to connect breath, body, and voice. You'll chant mantras in order to open the heart, cleanse the mind, and create inner and outer harmony.
As an experienced singer, performer, yoga teacher, and sound healer, your instructor, Kate, brings a sense of joy, freedom, and sacredness to these sessions. No one has to "perform". It's simply an opportunity to meditate, heal, and wake-up your avenue of expression in your own unique way. You will enjoy the special high that's possible when you come together as a group to make one 'voice' with specific healing intention.
Kate McKenzie has been practicing various forms of yoga all her adult life. She trained in Sivananda and Kundalini and yoga and has continued to study flowing forms and currently Iyengar yoga. Kate is passionate about creativity and well-being and her experience as a performer informs her approach. Her workshops aim to be both fun-filled and sacred, exploring the connection between breath, free movement, the poses, mantra, healing sound, and chakra awareness in order to live with more inspiration, balance, and self-awareness.
Finca Argayall is one of the best-kept secrets of the Canary Islands, Spain. This magical venue on the unspoilt island of La Gomera sits nestled in the cliffs in a secluded bay, with a spectacularly diverse landscape. The contrast of the rainforest, unspoilt beaches, and small fishing towns makes a visit to this island a full and rich experience. The venue itself runs as a community and welcomes others to experience and respect this beautiful and unique life.
Each day, you will be offered three organic vegetarian meals, breakfast, lunch, and dinner apart from one evening when you can go into the nearby village to taste the culinary delights offered locally.
In the village, you can book to go mountain biking, dolphin watching, and kayaking. There are plenty of walks on offer on this beautiful island, from traditional fishing villages to rainforests, banana plantations, and secluded sandy beaches.
Or you might just want to stay within the beauty of the venue itself, relax by one of the two pools, or simply take a few steps onto the beach and go for a swim in the warm, blue sea. Treatments such as massage and homeopathy are also available at an additional cost.
Please book your flight to arrive at Tenerife South Airport (TRF).
There are several airlines that fly to Tenerife South Airport (TRF). It is best to arrive before midday if possible to take the afternoon ferry across to La Gomera. From the airport, you will take a taxi to Los Cristianos ferry port, a 15-minute journey. From here, you will take a ferry to the island of La Gomera. The ferry takes about 45 minutes and costs between 30 - 40 EUR. From San Sebastian, you can take a taxi directly to Finca Argayall or alternatively there is a bus.
For the return, Yoga on a Shoestring recommends you to take an afternoon flight. It is a little adventure to get to the Finca but really worth it for such a special place.
