Edens Garden is situated where the Black River enters lake Hllsj and is surrounded by forests and lakes. The owners are John and Mandy De Jong and their young children who moved here from the Netherlands to lead a life in tune with nature. The farmhouse is a traditional clapperboard Swedish country-style home carefully furnished in a rustic style.
Yoga is practiced in a large open space downstairs and on the lawns immediately outside. Guests staying at the farm are accommodated in two twin bedrooms, a single room and one family room (3 persons). The family room contains one single room which is accessed through the main bedroom and also has en-suite shower facilities. The shower facilities at the farm are much like a normal family house in that showering is best spread out so as not to run out of hot water.
The twin and single rooms are serviced by a separate wash room. All rooms are attractive and decorated in simple Swedish country style and have nice views. The twin bedrooms can be converted as a single-supplement room. Please contact Yoga Sweden for further details and availability.
There will be a circular walking meditation along the Black River at Svana nature reserve. We will be walking through old-growth forest with ancient rocks, lichens hanging from the trees and a rich forest floor. We proceed mindfully in silence to open the senses to the whole experience. Good walking shoes are recommended and students are expected to have brought suitable outdoor wear.
Vstmanland (roughly means land of the men from the west) has Vsters (population of about 130,000) as its largest city. Vstmanland is in mid-Sweden with the large lake Mlaren forming the countys southern border. The Swedish capital Stockholm lies about 60 miles to the east on the shores of the Baltic. Vstmanland has a typical Swedish landscape of forests and lakes, dotted with small towns and villages with their traditional red and yellow timber buildings. It is reminiscent of the north-eastern parts of the USA where many Swedish migrants settled and built homes and barns similar to the ones theyd left behind.
Theres a lot of space to breathe here; only 20 people per square km, compared with 240 in the UK. The roads are quiet and all the extra elbow room contributes to a relaxed pace of life. Up until the mid 19th century, the county was a bit busier and known for its mining and metal-working industry (silver and copper), and the extensive forestry operations needed to fuel it. The mining has gone, the forests have been reclaimed by wildlife, and now it is the perfect place for a retreat.
The food is wholesome vegetarian and low in fat, dairy, wheat, and sugar. The recipe ideas are based on balance and Sattvic (pure) food that assist the purification process that is natural during a yoga practice. Organic fruit and vegetables are bought depending on availability.
Individual canoe hire is available for those with some experience. There is also a guided canoe trip on the Black River and Lake Hllsjn with qualified instructor John de Jong which is bookable in advance.
Explore the peaceful roads and forest tracks across the area. Bikes can be hired by the day or for the duration.
Take a visit to the historic settlement of Svan and hike along the Black River Valley trail. The Swedish law of 'Everyman's Right' permits open access to the countryside, provided due respect is given to nature and farmland.
A traditional outdoor experience with a birch-log fueled wooden tub lit by oil lamps and filled with the local spring water. Fresh fruit platter served with purifying birch-sap juice. Book in advance, subject to a minimum number of six.
Beaver safari by Canadian Canoe led by John de Jong can be organized either in the early morning hours or late evening.
Tailor-made wildlife and bird watching excursions can be arranged with a local nature-guiding expert. The area is a hot-spot for birdwatchers and wildlife photographers. Commonly, there are white-tailed eagles, bittern, crane, osprey, and elk seen or heard from the farmhouse.
Classic massage with oils and Tibetan singing bowl 'sound' massage are available on the retreat. Tibetan singing bowl 'sound' massage is Mandy de Jong's specialty and the ancient eastern method uses sound and vibration to trigger self-healing.
Sonically-charged Gong bath is also available. The individual is bathed in sound and vibration, either lying down or seated comfortably, to bring a deep relaxation to the body and mind, assisting the bodys natural healing properties.
Arrive at Stockholm Vasteras Airport.
