Only an hour and a half away from London, Florence House is the perfect venue for those who are keen to undergo an intense but relaxing weekend yoga experience. Steve and his team offer guests luxurious comfort, delicious vegetarian food, and great service in beautiful settings on the south coast of England.

On the brow of Seaford Head, East Sussex sits Florence House; kissed by sea air and surrounded by rolling wild landscape. The beautiful interior of the house itself, the abundant gardens, the proximity to the sea, and the wildness of the Downs make Florence House ideal for my yoga retreats.

The house is set in six acres within an area of outstanding natural beauty on the edge of the South Downs National Park and has views of Seaford Head and Seaford Head Golf Course. The beach is a two-minute walk away.

Florence House offers rooms individually decorated to create a calm and simple space for you to enjoy a peaceful and quiet yoga weekend. There is a choice of rooms from singles to triples based on your needs. All the bedrooms have lovely scenic views either of the Downs or the Estate’s private gardens.

Program

During this retreat, you will practice several invaluable techniques and tools such as pranayama breathing exercises, bodily, and sensory meditation from Yogic and Buddhist traditions mindfully executed yoga poses and movements, and of course the deeply relaxing practice of Yoga Nidra.

You will take inspiration from Hatha Yoga as well as more recent methods such as those popularized by Vanda Scaravelli. This yoga weekend is the perfect setting to be introduced to or to deepen your knowledge of the aforementioned practices. The sessions are aimed at everyone at any level and you will be practicing up to 10 hours of yoga and relaxation over the weekend.

Florence House is renowned for its delicious and creative home cooking produced by their own chefs. Produce is locally sourced where possible or from their own kitchen’s garden. Every day you will be served to nourish, exquisite vegetarian meals three times a day (accommodations for special dietary requirements available on request).

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Driving directions from Worthing / Brighton

  • Travelling east on A27 from Worthing / Brighton, follow signs to Newhaven / Lewes.
  • At the roundabout after the rail crossing you have a choice between Lewes and Newhaven; take A26 to Newhaven / Seaford.
  • Alternatively, follow the coast road A259 from Brighton to Newhaven.
  • In Newhaven, follow sign to the left for Seaford A259.
  • Carry on the A259 until you reach Seaford and a mini roundabout with the train station on your right-hand side.
  • Stay on the A259 going out of town in the direction of Eastbourne.
  • Look out for a church almost immediately on your right-hand side and take the third turning on your right after the church, this is Southdown Road.
  • Helpful markers to look out for at this junction are: a traffic light, red post box, and red phone box.
  • Stay on Southdown Road and go straight down the hill towards Seaford Head and the golf-course, crossing over a couple of streets.
  • At the bottom of the hill at Southdown Corner you will see a large grey house on the hill in front of you. This is Florence House.
  • Take the first gate entrance and follow it to the front door.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Gatwick Airport (LGW).

Arrival by train

The journey from Victoria to the house will take you only 1 hour 20 minutes. From Victoria, every 30 minutes, change at Lewes for Seaford. There will be taxis readily available at the station. From Gatwick Airport (LGW), take the train at South Terminal for Lewes and connect to Seaford. The journey time is one hour. There will be taxis at Seaford Station. It will take just five minutes by taxi from the station to Florence House.
