Accommodation

While in Chiang Mai you will stay at the lovely Sugar Cane hotel within walking distance of the charming Old City. It has a lovely pool, award-winning restaurant and a beautiful view of surrounding temples. When in town, the group will explore golden temples, enjoy fabulous food, visit night markets, experience an authentic Thai massage, cooking classes, trekking and more.

During your volunteering time, you will stay at Sugar Cane's sister property in the village of Chiang Dao, The Nest, which is a much shorter commute to your little mountain school and community. Please note that you will be riding local transportation in a "song tao", in the back of a covered red pickup truck, so you can connect more with the community and have an authentic experience.

Program

Join Beccah Bartlett on a special New Year retreat filled with yoga, exploration, and volunteering in the northern Thai town of Chiang Mai. In addition to staying and volunteering in a hill tribe village outside Chiang Mai, you will also travel down south to soak up the sun on the island paradise. Throughout the retreat, you will have the opportunity to attend daily yoga classes, guided journaling, meditation sessions, adventure excursions, personal pampering, and more.

Volunteering

During your time in Chiang Mai, you will be working with the children of a rural Akha Hill tribe who have limited rights and access to basic necessities to provide free vision care throughout the "Yogamour Sees Seva Project." Most of the children have never seen an optometrist before and your help is needed to organize the clinic. You will also work to create ways to incorporate your own unique skills and interests in interacting with the children.

Yogamour has previously held dance classes, planted edible gardens, led therapeutic art projects, and more. The possibilities are endless and your help is greatly appreciated! A child once wrote to one of the volunteers, "We know that you could go anywhere or help anyone but you chose here and you chose me and now we will always be friends." You are the change they have been waiting for.

Instructors

Rebeccah Bartlett
Yoga Alliance RYT 200 (Yoga)
Beccah discovered yoga at a young age from her aunt who was a yoga teacher. Before deciding to be a yoga teacher, she volunteered at a school in a slum in India. The children were restless, so Beccah involved the entire school in a morning practice of yoga before each day began, which did wonders for the kids’ attention spans. Her yoga style has a unique style of playful Vinyasa to open both heart and mind. Today, she continues to deepen her practice and has been amazed by the doors it has opened. Her ultimate passion is to intertwine her yoga community with volunteerism.
